Perfect solution for the factory replacement. If your torsion bar mount bushings are torn, these will work as viable replacements. And no, the bushings do not need to be that durable -- they only hold the torsion bar mount bracket in place. Much of the torque is held on the torsion bar and the torsion key. The weld on type is weld on for a reason; the frame material is thin and there are other things in the way. I imagine one could fit a bolt on type by drilling holes, but in my opinion, it's just as easy to re-weld new ones. The old bushing mount will need to be cut off using a reciprocating saw. Anything left can be cleaned up with an air chisel and cut off wheel sand disc. The fuel lines can be protected with a welding shield *caveat emptor*. I tape some aluminum foil onto a piece of cardboard, then used it to shield the fuel lines. The cardboard can be folded and tucks nicely between the frame and fuel lines. You should shield the fuel lines during the grinding and welding.

I did it the cheap way like was recommended. Everything was fine until the day I dropped the mount bushing at 35mph in a residential area. Truck suddenly veered into a driveway, took out 2 cars and damaged 2 houses. When my vehicle was inspected after the accident they discovered what was referred to as "failure of major components due to gross negligence of installation by owner." I now have a 138k judgment against me that my insurance will not cover because of " improper modifications made by owner/installer." So if you decide to do it the wrong way, you've been warned. I have talked with dozens of people that have replaced these and 90% of them say the bushing failed within a couple months. The issue lies in that while you can technically replace just the bushing, it is nearly impossible to re-stamp the edges in the proper places to secure the bushing in the housing. Without this step being done the bushing is free to twist and turn inside of its housing and creates the same effect as the old bushing that was removed.... the torsion bars are not firmly secured and will flex woth load on your suspension. Also, the damage done to the original housing on the vehicle when removing the broken bushing can easily create microscopic cracks in the bushing housing that will expand almost immediately upon heavy use on the suspension. There is a very good reason as to why this part is only sold as a complete unit and not just the bushing.

Only 4 stars as I did not cut out and weld this in. The part you weld in seems too thin to have the appropriate strength. I removed the bushing and installed in my existing mount. No problems at all, annoying knocking sound is gone.
