Old one was broken in half. Was able to replace and finally the gear shifter indicates the correct gear now.

Shifter on my F150 was so annoying so I ordered this and had my teenage son install it. Now the shifter works perfectly. Somewhat easy to replace.

Great product! This bracket worked great on my 1999 Ford ranger. Took me just over 20 minutes to replace and it was exactly like the factory one. I would recommend this product for anyone with a similar age Ford pickup truck.

The gear indicator on my 1997 Ford F150 Lariat quit working. Discovered the little plastic bracket, that bolts to the steering assembly under the dash and holds the control cable and adjustment wheel, was broken - see Photo.Fortunately, this is a repair that can be made without having to remove any trim panels to access the bracket. All you need is a 7/32" socket wrench and the ability to contort yourself to get your hands up under the dash while lying on your back. Also, an assistant to hold a light would be helpful. To show where it broke, I hot-glued the bracket back together and stuck it back on the metal post to which it was attached - see Photo. You can see from the cracks that the bracket broke away from the 7/32" mounting bolt (not shown).I attached the new bracket to the end of the control cable by putting the adjustment wheel between the two plastic prongs then turned the wheel as I fed the threaded end of the cable through it. Then the hard part - getting the loop on the end of the cable wire to slip over the metal hook from the gear shift mechanism.NOTE: You have to put your gear shift lever into 1st gear in order to see and reach this metal hook.I was able to position the end of the loop on the outside edge of the of the hook then, by feel alone, use two fingers to push the end of the loop up and over the end of the hook. Then I put the bracket over the mounting stud and secured it with the 7/32" hex bolt - see Photo. A couple of turns of the adjustment wheel were all that was needed to align the pointer of my gear indicator with the letters under the pointer, as shown in the attached photo. An easy fix, but it required spending $12.29 for a 10¢ piece of injection-molded plastic. To avoid having to do it again, I plan on removing the bracket and reinforcing the weak points with JBWeld KwikWeld. You should think about doingsomething similar if you have to replace the bracket in your truck.

This did work, but I had to modify it to fit properly. The application showed a perfect fit, but it wasn't. I have always been happy with Dorman products and this one did solve the issue with some minor modifications.

The shift indicator on my Ford Explorer broke a while back, so I tied it off with a cable tie. It worked OK, but did not stay in place. I tried gluing the broken OEM part. Not sure what kind of plastic, but none of my glue held.Did NOT want to buy the expensive replacement for the shift indicator assembly from Ford. This part was the answer and bolted right in. It actually took longer to remove panels to get to it than replacing and adjusting the new bracket. One suggestion for Dorman. The replacement part appears to be the same design as OEM. Perhaps it is made of a more durable plastic, but I would have hoped they would have redesigned the bracket (or 'beefed up' the design in the corners) where the OEM breaks.
