  • Simplified repair - this exhaust flange repair kit offers a fast, effective way to reconnect the catalytic converter and manifold exhaust flange without drilling, heating, or special tools

On certain Ford trucks and vans, the original equipment studs connecting the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold flange can typically rust and break. Removal can be difficult and often requires drilling and heating by a torch. Safely accomplishing that repair demands a significant amount of time, skill and experience, along with some specialized tools. This Dorman OE FIX exhaust flange repair kit offers a cost-effective, faster and much simpler way to securely reconnect the converter and flange using ordinary hand tools, without drilling or heating. The innovative kit includes a pair of sturdy stainless steel brackets designed to fit over the broken stud sections on the manifold flange. The opposite end of each bracket has an integrated threaded stud that slides through the cat converter mounting holes. Just push the threaded end of each bracket through the catalytic converter mounting holes, place the contoured side of each bracket against the exhaust flange and around the headless broken studs of the exhaust flange, and secure the connection with the included stainless steel nuts.

Second time I've used these. Worked perfectly. Don't even bother trying to extract the broken studs. Get these and save some headache.

When you’re in the middle of replacing the catalytic converters on your 26 year old F-150 and that first rusty stud used to attach the cats to the exhaust manifold snaps off, it is certainly a relief to discover this product (once you stop cussing and start googling).Just be aware of two things; one that Dorman could easily remedy but apparently has not, and one that you might check on your exhaust manifold flange before deciding between this product and the only other similar product out there that costs significantly more.First … seriously Dorman … change this. The nuts they send are the right size … they just over-galvanized the heck out of them and they literally don’t thread on to the bolt. Factor in a run to Ace Hardware at $1.86 plus tax per replacement nut to be able to use the product.Fortunately, I had one good stud on each exhaust manifold to hold the new cats in place while getting one of these brackets on the other side of each flange, as these do “wiggle” a bit while trying to get them tightened up enough to hold. I assume the other product would have the same issue due simply to the nature of the products. The thing to check is how smooth the top of the flange is to which the top side of this bracket will snug down against. One of my flanges was smooth and snugged down with no issues … didn’t even wiggle much. The other flange really wasn’t smooth, I had a lot of wiggle, and the snug is really only against a couple of small ridges, hence less “secure” feeling. The product that cost more had obviously been designed with those ridges on the flanges in mind, and I know now would have very likely felt a bit more secure.All-in-all, this product will work so long as you get replacement nuts for them, but I’d have probably bought the others if I knew then what I know now.

Nuts were wrong for the bolts. Sent them on a few threads and could not get them off. Had to cut them off and use different bolts. Recommend testing nuts all the way up and down the bolt before attempting installation.
