Be aware that the bit is junk! It barely got into the door and literally stopped. I had to get my own bit to finish the hole. And it was a wood door?

1) Mark the door to the height you want the peephole, masking tape both sides of door you're going to drill. 2) using the drill bit that came with it start your hole (go slow and steady) until the tip of the bit pokes through the otherside, backout (now on the other side of the door) put the drill bit inside that hole and start your second hole and they meet up perfectly. 3) lastly clean out any debris in the hole and start to screw the peephole in remember the glass part goes towards the outside the little Optical with the window is for the inside you might need a coin or a small tool to help tighten it that's what those little grooves are for.

the image through the peephole is clear, but the inner rim on one of the viewers (rim facing indoors, not the outer rim with the lense) snapped while i was installing it.i was surprised at how easily it cracked. maybe a faulty piece of hardware like a pre-existing crack that was too fine to see upon first glance, or maybe low quality material used. I'm not entirely sure, but one of the viewers broke during installation. the other viewer that came together with this broken one was installed just fine.i have a feeling it was a faulty piece of hardware, and probably not an issue with the quality of metal that was used.still, dissatisfied that an item so easily broken was delivered.now one of my doors has a broken viewer inside of it.edit: seller provided a full refund due to this defect. service makes up for the faulty product - 5 stars.
