Door Silencer Strike Plate - Flexible, Noise Eliminating Solution for Loud Doors

Door Silencer Strike Plate Packaging and Door Close

The Awakening

The door latch strike plate has gone unchanged for over 80 years. It gets the job done but can it be made better? That's what I thought as I was awakened one morning by a slamming door and the Door Silencer was born.

Door Silencer Flexible Demo

The Door Silencer follows the same principle as a traditional strike plate found on almost every interior door in your house but it one ups it at every step.

As the bolt of the door makes first contact with the plate it's a metal on metal clash but not the Door Silencer.

Made of flexible and durable material our design absorbs and deadens the strike. The bolt then rides over a soft surface that doesn't make a scratchy metal sound until it is released into the bolt opening.

Here again we thought it through. Instead of a vast opening for the bolt to unload its pent up spring energy and make another noise, our design ramps down the bolt and at the same time a second flap slows down the descent, almost pinching the bolt as it lowers into the opening.

Door Silencer White on Blue Wall

Less Bang For Your Buck

However we are not done yet, a lot of noise from closing the door comes when the door slams into the door jamb. Here we added a Slam Backstop that adds a pad between the door and the door jamb gently bringing the door to a close.

All combined we have re-tuned the sound a door makes when it closes. It now sounds closer to a luxury automobile door rather than a trash can lid being slammed.

All of this comes at no loss of features. The door can still be latched and locked as per usual and the Door Silencer installs in seconds right into your existing door jamb but we also include our own color matched metal screws if you want the strike plate to be both silent and invisible.

Strike Plate For The Modern Age

Door Silencer Strike Plate Before and After

Soundproof your house, enjoy better sleep, calmer days and a better life. Open the door into the 21st century and silently shut one on the clunky metal noise of days past.

  • Door Silencer Strike Plate fits existing strike plates measuring 2-1/4" vertically
  • Screw holes being 1-5/8" apart on center
  • Door jamb depth is 1-7/16"

Four Innovations In Silence

Door Silencers Strike Plate Soft Close Door

1. Slow The Bolt

As the door and the bolt meet our flexible design absorbs the energy and gently begins the process

Door Silencer Strike Plate Soft Ramp

2. Ramp Down The Bolt

The flexible ramp takes over as the bolt quietly glides along it to the bolt opening

Door Silencer Strike Plate Flexible Ramp

3. Catch The Bolt

Next comes the flap that catches the bolt and gently lowers it into the opening while flexing out of the way

Door Silencer Strike Plate Door Jamb Noise Stop

4. Stop the Door

Finally as the Slam Backstop prevents the door and door jamb from making more noise by absorbing and flexing

Door Silencer Door Fitment Check Guide

If Two Credit Cards Fit You are Good to Go

Door Silencers Screw Depth Chart
Tight Is Right, Too Tight Is Broken

It might be tempting to crank down on that screw like you would on a metal strike plate but there is no reason. A little goes a long way.

Since the Door Silencer is made of flexible material over tightening is a possibility and not only does it look bad it can distort the shape of the strike plate and alter its function.

Tighten until the plate is secure and the door frame can clear the head of the screw, there is absolutely no reason to go below the flat surface, trust us it wont fall off.

  • Do Not Overtighten The Screws
  • Stop At or Slightly Above The Surface
  • Be Sure Door Clears Screw Heads

Fit Check Before Buying

Tight Door Jambs Can Cause Issues

Not all doors are the same. Be sure it will fit by using a two credit card test. If you can fully insert two stacked credit cards between your current strike plate and the latch when the bolt is not in the way then you are good to go. If the credit cards wedge at the opening or are overly tight when pushing in then the Door Silencer strike plate will be too thick for your door. You can deepen your strike plate recess in the door but that is a big job and we want you to know before you order.

  • Some Doors are Tighter Than Others
  • Use Two Credit Cards To Check Fitment
  • Door Can Be Modified To Fit The Door Silencer Strike Plate

This is an amazing idea and I hope this company keeps innovating products. This effectively lowers the sound of a door latch. However, if your latch has a pin it will no longer lock; so check prior to purchase. If there’s a way to adapt this to work with a lock that has a pin (so that it still locks) I’d love to know.

It didn’t make much of a noticeable difference and it didn’t allow our doors to latch shut due to the silicone inside the hole.

It helps to quiet a door opening and closing. Instead of metal hitting metal, it’s metal contacting soft plastic. Works great. If you are expecting “noise cancelling technology,” yes, you will be disappointed. It may not be silent, but it makes a big difference. Also, a reviewer said their door didn’t securely latch after installation. Wait about a day and everything will “settle in” and the door will latch securely again.Am glad I gave this a shot.

Easy to install (like, really easy). I knew it was polymer but I was surprised how flexible it is. No issues with the fit in the door. It definitely cuts down on the noise from the latch, so much so that I bought more for the rest of the house. This, plus a cushion for where to door meets the frame, and I imagine it’d be even more quiet.

Was thrilled to find this product as it was just what I it was looking for to keep my 6 year old from waking up the house every morning. It works better than expected. Makes the door slamming/close quieter and also the latch part quieter. My husband was astounded in the difference. It’s not silent but unbelievably better for $10. Unjust bought a second one for my other kiddos room.

It did indeed make the closing of the door quieter. However, the door would not stay latched. The flexible plastic would not compress the door latch properly so you had to slam it shut. Because you slam it shut, the door was actually louder. The plastic needs to be stiffer to better compress the latch

The hole required for a latch mechanism is too small and will require modifications to work correctly. As shipped it holds back the latching cylinder from engaging into the slot. With some dyi mods, was able to get it to work.

Putting these in has gone a long way toward silencing the door to my home's nursery, and the doors nearby. I found the fit and ease of install to be spot on, for doors which pass the "2 credit card check" they recommend. I had a couple doors that did not pass that check, so I just made some extra space with a chisel without much trouble. These seem to be of top quality, but it is worth noting that this is NOT a hard plastic piece with some overmolded soft rubber bumpers. The entire piece is one, slightly flexible, material. So if you catch something on it as you walk by, or something, you can bend it. For me this isn't much of a concern, but I was surprised that the whole thing is the same material. In any case, I can now walk into and out of the nursery in absolute safety and silence without waking the baby.

These replacement strike plates work well in my use case. The soft strike plates are a bit wider and thicker than the metal strike plates in our home. The curved lip on the strike plate that make initial contact with the bolt sticks out a bit further but its really not an issue as the door still functions correctly.Be sure to follow the advice in the description :-Do Not Over-tighten The Screws-Stop At or Slightly Above The Surface (of the strike plate).-Be Sure Door Clears Screw HeadsI installed these strike plates after shimming and leveling our bedroom door, the combination of the shims and this strike plate has drastically reduced the noise the door makes when opening and closing. While they may not be perfect for every application they work well and I will likely purchase more for our laundry room and bathroom doors as well.

I gave it 3 stars because it reduced the loudness when closing the door, but didn’t stop it completely. It was easy to install.
