This is meant to be a giftable kit, so it's weird you need to purchase the tool. They cost like a dollar, make sure you buy one.I'd say the age for this should be 10+. Got it for my 12 year old VERY crafty daughter, and she still needed a 30 second parent assist to learn the method.Otherwise, the kit is nice. Everything is pre-cut and well packaged. We had no problems distinguishing colors for the pattern like others have noted. I'm honestly unsure how there could be confusion as the mat is dyed with the color of yarn needed for each bit. Haven't seen the finished product yet, but she's having fun working on it. Will take several hours (I'd guess 5 dedicated hours) to complete, so it's good value for the time.Last note, our cat is obsessed with it. Daughter can barely work on it without the cat coming to lay on top and try to get at the yarn. Go figure ;)

My kids love squishmallows and doing art projects so when I saw this one and that the age recommendation is six and up I thought it would something fun to do together. While this is a kit, it does not include a latch hook and it needs to be bought separately, which is surprising, but it does include precut yarn. The finished product is very cute, but I do think the age recommendation should be higher than six, since my son was not able to do this without adult assistance and the colors on the pattern are sometimes hard to distinguish. It's a fun project, but make sure you have the latch hook before starting this.

This is a nice latch hook kit and it comes with everything except the hook. The print is nice on the kit and it is suitable for a range of skill levels with patience. The hardest part is making sure you get your browns right as Hans is mostly a mix of various shades. The finished piece looks really nice and it is sure to make any Squishmallow fan happy.

I didn't see the entry that said you have to purchase the latch hook separately, but I ended up taking a trip to the local W-mart to get one for $3. That solved, I started working on this with my daughter, and the first problem we ran into is that you can't really differentiate between the colors they are using and who ever thought that using black, dark brown, darker brown and other really dark similar colors in the stencil were really not thinking this through very well. I can't imagine how a child would figure this out by themselves.Make sure if you get this set that you purchase a safety latch hook, if you are going to do it with a child, and maybe they should have not said 6+ if they were going to make the stencil so difficult to interpret.

Got this for my daughter but didn’t realize it didn’t come with the hook. That’s my own fault for not reading the info on the page though. Once we finally got a hook and she started putting it together, it’s super cute. This would be a great gift for someone who loves squishmallows cause it’s pretty fun to make. Just remember to buy a hook to go with it lol.
