This stroboscope is perfect for industrial application where you cannot stop the equipment to apply a reflective tape like some other type of tachometers. Ideal for people that work in a plant and need to be able to check rotational speed without interfering with production.

This unit works great, the light might be a little dim to use outside in bright sun but indoors under normal room light it’s fine. Has a USB rechargeable battery. There is no external indicator when battery is charging but if you turn the unit on the battery indicator on the screen flashes to show it is charging. I have used it for about two hours total time and battery shows no discharge so you should get a lot of use between charges. Perfect for non-contact measuring of RPM on motors, fans drills, boat or airplane propellers etc. No tape is needed on object being measured.You can easily adjust the flash rate by steps of 1, 10 or 100This unit does not look at the spinning object and report back the measured RPM automatically. You need to continue rotating the knob and observe the motion of the object until it appears to stop moving, that will be your RPM. If you can’t completely stop the motion, you may be seeing every other rotation. Try doubling your setting. For example, I measured a motor shaft. At 1800 the shaft moved slightly one way and at 1799 it moved slightly the other way, I increased the flash rate to 3600 and got image to stop completely, verified the correct speed is 3600 by looking up specs on motor.Once you have set the RPM to stop the motion of your rotating object it has a neat feature called phase shift which simply changes the currently selected Flash rate slightly so the object appears to rotate slowly, when you release phase shift it will return to current setting but now you will be observing the rotating object at a different position, for instance if you wanted to observe a specific fan blade you could phase shift to the next bade.The instructions are remarkably understandable (nice feature).The only quality issue I had was the dial was a little tight, so I removed it (friction fit so just pulls off) and filed down the underside of the outside edge. Works perfectly now.Overall, I am very pleased with this unit.
