Reason I wanted them is that the easier-to-use double cap rivets just don't come in enough sizes. They're either too long or too short. Plus, I always seem to get dents in my caps. I wanted something I could set to the exact length I needed, and since you set the burrs exactly to the depth you want and snip the rivet to length afterward, these were my solution. That, and they are robust fasteners. I'd lose double caps all the time, putting a sheath back on an ax and seeing a couple holes where rivets were supposed to be. Missing.I knew from the start these were the tough, stylish, brass fasteners I was looking for. I got 12s (9 is just way too big for my ax sheaths I make, and much, much harder to tool). But I ruined so many, many of them. Dozens. (Hundreds?... maybe not hundreds). I bent them, mashed them, cut them too short, cut them too long. If you buy these, there's a learning curve. Videos don't really help you through it. They don't provide you with any hands-on experience, a feel for what you're doing, or even enough explanation about principles involved. But guess what? I learned! Rather than give up and go for a "rustic barbaric" look, I learned how to dome them to a perfect, shiny, professional looking finish with a simple Tandy or Weaver setting tool. How low to cut them to the burr... How to first flatten the snipped off part with a hammer a bit and THEN set the domer on, rotating it through light taps 360.Hands down now my favorite leather working fastener, my go-to. I have hundreds of double caps lying around, and Chicago screws... I just don't need anymore. I'm a rivet and burr guy now. Tried a couple different companies, but they all seem to work just fine. I get size 12s in antique brass, and 1/2" and 3/4" lengths. I do prefer to use a matched setter (a no. 12) as opposed to the "eighter 9 or 12." Just does a neater job, less chance of messing up leather. For me right now, height I snip above the burr is ... well, what's the point in giving that, I guess. It will depend on how high your dykes or nippers cut. You have to experiment. Just... don't cut too low! That mistake will make a mess of it, marred up burrs, irregular domes and scarred leather around the burr. I'll give you that tip: stay up a little when you cut, leaving maybe between 1/16 and 1/8 inch of rivet above the burr. Set a few in scrap. See what works best for you. I use a spacer, the cutout in the cardboard backing that any small bubble packaged part comes in. You know, where it hangs on the hook in the store. That thin cardboard seems perfect height for my small nippers. You'll find what works for you, your tool, and your preferences. And once you do, you'll feel your accomplishment and these will become your favorite fasteners!!!

They're rivets, not much to say. Technology's been around for about five thousand years. These do their job admirably.

These brass Rivets are a lot "harder" than the softer Copper Rivets. I think they hold up very well! I like the color option as well.

The rivets work just fine, but they do not patina as brass should. Even after cleaning & sanding them, a long soak in undiluted liver of sulphur doesn’t even produce the smallest patina. This would turn any real brass black:

Great job on making it seem like it came with all the parts, and yet, it didnt. Thanks for wasting my time and yours. Just post that its only the rivets next time you advertise your product.

So i just recieved this and thought I would try one out before i commit it to a dog collar I am making. Like the reviews say the cap has marks probably from the manufacture process. After reading other reviews about the washer not fitting, it did take some patience and light tapping to get the washer to go on. I did not notice the metal being too soft.the rivet setter i have is not particularly smooth so it does leave lines on the set end. Otherwise just some light sanding and polishing with a dremel and it will most likely be good for me.
