If you need to screw in drywall and are considering using a standard drill, maybe with one of those drywall bits, DON'T. This is the tool you need. Once you use it, you will wonder how you ever used anything else to screw in drywall screws.First thing first, you need to set the depth gauge. Grab a scrap piece of drywall and experiment a little to get it right. Once you have that set, you can hang a sheet of drywall very quickly.Drywall screw guns have a clutch in them that only engages when you are pushing on it. Pull the trigger, nothing happens. Push the screw into the wall, and it engages, drives the screw, and stops all in a fraction of a second. Once you get the hand of it, you will have perfect results almost every time. Every once I need to touch up with a regular drill but that is maybe one screw every 2-3 sheets, and typically because a joist/stud isn't quite lined up, or some other issue. If you are thinking about cordless: DON'T. A cordless drywall screw gun would chew through batteries like they're going out of style. Just get yourself a good quality, 12-14 gauge, long, heavy duty extension cord. Coil up some slack where you are working and you will barely notice it. the only annoyance related to cords is they get snagged on the drywall hoist when I am screwing into the ceiling.

Received this today and couldn't wait to start using it. I was previously using a cordless drill with a drywall dimpler attachment which was getting the job done but was leaving many screws sticking out too much. This screwdriver is fantastic - once I adjusted the head to the correct depth (which I did using some scrap rock) the screws were perfectly set with no screw sticking out and no screw breaking the paper. This worked nicely on 1/2" and 5/8" Type X rock (very dense) in both wood and steal framing members. The screwdriver drove the screws in without struggling in any way.I've only had it for a few hours so I cannot speak to its durability but it appears to be a solidly built product and many other people who have this model claim it lasts forever. Time will tell.

I have used several makes of drywall screwdriver. The DW272 was recommended by someone who had worked in the business for several years. It has the power and durability for more work than I want to do. It was a little more expensive than some others, but I have never been sorry to have bought a Dewalt product. Quality costs nothing.

Have hung my share of drywall over the years (not as a pro) and always used either hammer and drywall nails or a cordless drill with a bit to drive screws. This drywall screwdriver really speeds up the process--even for a small room. It does take a while to get the hang of it, however, because unless you drive the in screw perfectly straight, it won't seat properly and you'll have to back it out and try again. I'd practice driving a few screws on a scrap of drywall first to get the knack of using it and to adjust the depth setting for your job before beginning work--the screw should be just below the surface of the paper so you don't hit it with a taping knife--if the knife "clicks" on the screw when you go over it, you need to set the depth a little lower.

I don't know why I waited so long -- I purchased this to do my basement -- makes doing any sheetrock job -- especially ceilings -- exceedingly easier than doing it the old way with a cordlesss drill and dimpler bit.It takes a little practice to get used to how fast you can work with this, but even taking your time loading screws, it sets them at a perfect depth everytime which saves a HUGE amount of time in the long run when mudding.I'm holding back 1 star to see how well the tool holds up over time, but 25% of the way into my basement project, I'm extremely pleased with its performance.

For a D.I.Y.er, whose only worked in his own home, I've done a lot of sheetrocking. Now that I'm on my "final" project, I finally bought a real screwgun, instead of using a battery drill. All I can say is why did I wait so long? Drives screws instantly, to the correct depth (after adjustment), with almost no noticeable torque against your wrist. Great tool.

This appears to be a v. good driver, except the manual is very poorly written and the illustration insufficiently informative. In addition, the plastic sleeve that adjusts the depth of the screw was so tightly screwed on that I has to mount the driver in my vise and use a wrench to unscrew it. Once this was accomplished the driver works as expected. The manual would not even be required, except the overly foreceful assembly as indicated above made me doubt if I understand the function of the parts.
