Devardi glass is a handmade, hand pulled glass that uses very ancient glass formulas. It is very saturated with color and the color remains very true even with high heat. The color of the rods are commonly the colors you will receive in your bead. Devardi is a stiffer glass than other COE 104 glasses, which can be very beneficial for decorations, encasing or sculptures. With different heat settings, most Devardi glass colors provide different effects. The opaques tend to mottle with high heat, resembling a marbled look, or remain the color of the rod with cooler flames. Different oxygen/propane mixes also can give different appearances. Devardi is generally a lower heat COE 104 glass. Once you become accustom to it, you will find it to be a great glass. Devardi glass rods are hand pulled, and therefore are not perfectly straight or uniform. And the rods will vary in width and length. But this does not affect the quality.

I ordered this glass directly from Devardi, not through Amazon. I don't know what the difference is between Italian glass and Devardi, but please don't waste your money. I have been flame working for over 10 years, and I have never had Italian glass shatter like these rods (with the exception of Anice white), even with preheating. Another thing to consider is that Devardi glass is more expensive than ordering common colors of Italian glass from Frantz Art Glass. If you are just starting out, consider ordering odd colors of Vetrofond. They are often on sale for $5 to $10 a pound. I have also found that Devardi glass is not always compatible with other coe 104. It might be cracked right out of the kiln or days later. I would never sell a bead made from Devardi and Italian glass together.

I wasn't expecting a perfect match, but I was expecting something even a little bit closer to a consistent diameter. Not so. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Wish I could give zero stars…true item desciption says randomly selected but come on this is nothing like the pictured item. The real problem is that it’s completely useless even slow warming on a low flame causes it to shatter and no I never held it directly in the flame. I hope this helps someone out there…spend the extra money and get quality glass rods. Buy cheap get cheap

The rods were tricky to introduce to the flame, they kept breaking and flying about, the colors were muddy
