I purchased a lightly used Kid Comfort 2 that didn't come with a shade. Although that's an older model, this fits perfectly. Just get some mini carabineers to connect the straps to the loops as another reviewer suggested. Been using it for a few months now and it does a great job of keeping sun and light rain off of my kiddo without restricting their view. Easy to stow when not needed too. Even when the sun isn't a concern, I often keep it installed while hiking to keep small branches etc from slapping her in the face. The front straps will push small things to the side. It's not a helmet, but it does provide some cushion if you bump into something and you can feel the hood bump into an object before your child's head does. I often go through pretty dense woods so this function has come in handy. If you've already spent enough to buy one of these Deuter backpack carriers you're crazy to not spend the couple more bucks to get this shade. You aren't getting your money's worth without it.

We hiked the Rockie Mountains with this and it worked fantastic, it fit our Kid Comfort backpack perfectly (women's fit). It was a lifesaver and it attached easily and was easy to secure. It kept the sun out of my daughter's face the entire trip and it held up well to rain also. 1000% worth it, I wouldn't use the backpack without it.

I purchased a used Kid Comfort Air in good condition.As others have said, I needed to adapt the front attachment. It was a piece of cake. The existing elastic loops on the front of the pack were easily used. Another option would be to hand sew the needed “tapes” on the front of the pack itself. Since I sew quite a lot, I could have done this, but I’m using the easy method to start.
