About this item

  • Lightweight - Only 6 lbs.!
  • Made In USA
  • 3-Play Violin Grade Maple Rim
  • Easy to learn on!
  • Features a resonator (the back) for projection of sound, making it a great banjo to play bluegrass on!

A resonator back provides more projection of sound in the Goodtime 2. It's made here in the USA, at the Deering shop with the same tooling used to make the top of the line banjos. Greg Deering designed the Goodtime banjos because there were no low priced banjos of enough quality for people to actually learn on without difficulty or giving up. He remembers what it was like to want a good banjo and not be able to afford one, so his gift to others is the Goodtime banjo line.

Received banjo a day early which is a plus! I bought used because of the price, came in great condition! Would buy again!

First of all the banjo is very loud. Unexpectedly loud. I had to remove the resonator and place a couple of rags in the inner chamber to quite the sound a little. However, I had to do that with my other banjo which I had for forty years. The quality of the banjo is very good however, when one plays a banjo that weighs 14 pounds and then purchases one that weighs 6 pounds adjustments have to be made. I'm having problems with the neck weighing more than the head thus the banjo continuously wants to rotate to the heavy end taking it out of position. I have tried to correct the problem with a instrument strap but that has not worked. I keep adjusting it trying to find a solution without success. I like the instrument I just have to find out how to keep it steady. Let me add that I am not a good banjo player even though I have tried for forty years. That might be part of the problem as well.

I'm a novice banjo player (2 years) and wanted to "graduate" from my beginner banjo. The tone and sound of the Deering Goodtime 2 is sooo much better. It's easier to play. I love it!!!

I purchased this instrument in order to further my exploration of banjo music - unfortunately, the banjo I received was not the Goodtime 2, as pictured and described above, the but the Goodtime Banjo. While a fine instrument, it lacks many of the features of the Goodtime 2 - most importantly it lacks the resonator. It creates a very different sound projection when the resonator is installed. For the consumer, there's a pricepoint difference between the two that accounts for that of a couple hundred dollars. So, what I was charged for was not what was delivered and will be returned and refunded. What I am out is the additional aggravation of returning a musical instrument and delaying the start of my classes. My advice to you: Check your order, especially if you are looking at this a gift for someone else.

I'm totally in love with this banjo. It's easy to play, has a beautiful bright tone, and really resonates. The neck is thin compared to my old antique Gretch banjo, and is easy to fret. The only improvement I would have liked, would be, railroad spikes for the fifth string. All in all, this is an amazing instrument, which I'm surprised they classified as entry level. A plus, it's made in the USA.

This banjo is beautiful! I was excited to get it but I was more excited when I had first saw it. I was unsure of the blonde maple but it has grown on me. I bought it used so I may not have received the things that comes in a new box. The only problem I have was that the banjo was not placed in it's protective covering. They shipped it, just not covering the banjo. Makes no sense. I would recommend this product to anyone. The price is a bit steep so buy used! Most importantly is that it's made in the good ol' USA. Deering makes a good product!

bought this on the 20th of December and it showed up on the 26th of December that may not seem like a big deal but i live in South Korea so this was amazing. Product arrived in amazing condition did not have to adjust the bridge or the action, came almost ready to play out of the box just had to do some tuning.

I've been playing banjo for about two years and I had a really heavy banjo that I picked up used. Has a nice sound but, dang she was heavy. I've been wanting a Deering for quite some time and finally just said, I ain't gonna take this money to the grave, but I sure might have this Deering banjo buried with me! I really like it and I'm sounding better, crisper. I can't put it down. Wife gettin a little tired of it though.

Wonderful banjo! It has excellent intonation and a bright sustain, despite the. lack of a metal tone ring. I got it on a Cyber Monday deal, but I would have bought it at the usual price.
