Can you buy higher quality, solid brass, sturdier hinges? Yes. But expect to pay $30 a pair. Some projects might require those hinges. However for a nice 10 in wide jewelry box for my wife with 1/2 in thick wood, these hinges are great. Install on back of box. No need to mortise. Solid quality. 90 degree stop keeps the lid from flipping back when opened. Screws were fine. Drill pilot hole. Wax screws with chapstick. Use miniature screw driver. Take your time. You will be fine. If I were replacing hinges on a family heirloom or if I ever have the skills of a true artisan (unlikely) who can make an inlaid wood box, I would buy $30 hinges. Until then these are great

Worked just perfectly for a little recipe box I made. They hold the lid open nicely at 90 degrees. Hard to find stop hinges locally.

These hinges are quite stiff. I ended up using some less expensive, antiqued bronze color hinges that didn't match my project--it was a birthday gift and time was running out. I later used these in a project where they will rarely be used. Both honges in the package were stiff, so yes, they are decorative, but functionally poor.

Nice little hinges, just don't use the screws provided. First two broke right off in the box I just finished spending about 8-10 hours building. It's basically junk now.

Replacing small damaged hinge, worked well. Despite small size fasteners easy to use, and hinge sturdier than one i was replacing.

These worked very well for some small boxes I made. Had no issue with the screws, waxed them before use and they went right in no problem. Hinges look good and work well.

So the first thing you need to do when unpacking these hinges is to carefully gather up the screws, walk over to the nearest trash can and throw them in. Then buy some american made steel screws that are gold colored and you are good to go. The heads on the supplied screws will twist of half way in no matter how carefully you pre-drill. Otherwise, the hinges are great for the money- just lubricate them, move them back and forth a few times to get them moving smoothly and wipe them down with a soft cloth.
