Updated: My one star is not for the insturement, it is about shipment. Maybe I can update (I did) my review if I can fix the problems (solved by the help of our older viola). I could not add the photos through app (I did through web) but if I can I will also. The bridge was not on its place (not a big problem, solved), two of four strings are not on their places and disjointed (solved), some of bow horsehairs are disjointed (just removed, solved), shoulder rests is broken (not broken, missing part, solved with older viola's shoulder rest),... There was also some problems about the order too but they were solved, thanks God I get the viola. I ordered on 5th of March with One Day Shipment as a prime member but it was shipped on 8th of March. And the estimated delivery time was 9th of March before order but it became 13th of March after order. As a result, I got it on 12nd of March inside USA. And now I am dealing with the problems about the viola. Shame on you Amazon (sorry for this :))... Update about the viola: It has a great sound. My son really like it. His older one was a used Stentor (I have to mention that we did not experience a new one) and one can not even compare. This D'Luca is really great. I can easily recommend to everyone.

The case for this viola was beyond wonderful! I almost considered keeping it for the case. Unfortunately the viola, the main item was not so wonderful. The sound was off, it has no fine tuners and it smelled like the varnish was still drying. For the money it was maybe ok considering the case and bow but serious students will not be happy with it. At least that was our opinion, the other reviews were so wonderful maybe we expected too much.

Got a very good deal thru Amazon. This viola looks so beautiful and my son loves it. The sound is better than his school one he rented for a week. Nice, rich look velvet case (inside) with compartments to keep accessories. It doesn't come with fine tuner, however I contacted the manufacturer and they sent one for free. Very good product and very good product support. Based on the local store recommendation, I did change the strings (steel, not the prelude one), now the sound is even better. I would highly recommend.

I cannot believe what an amazing deal I got on this instrument. It has been years since I played (and I used to play professionally), but I gave it up for the sake of family. After years I want to get back into music and start teaching my kids, so I thought I had better get a new viola. (Long story, but my previous professional instrument is long gone). I don't have a fortune to spend, being a single mother, and I am unsure about cheap instruments coming from China. This viola felt different. I did a fair amount of research and decided to take a chance and order one (worst case scenario, I could return it).I am so glad I took the chance. The case is worth more than I paid for the viola. I upgraded the strings to Dominants (my preference), and upgraded the included rosin... but the rest is as it was received. The viola, first of all is beautiful. I polished it immediately upon receiving and spend the first evening just reacquainting myself with the curves and planes of the shape. The tone is rich and deep, en par with more expensive instruments I have played. The bridge is perfectly fitted so that the strings all have nice easy playability. The bow has enough weight for me, but I will probably upgrade to a longer bow (again, preference). If you are looking for a student instrument you could not possibly go wrong. As an advanced level player (degreed and everything) I love it.

This review will occur in two parts, the second which will focus on reliability of craftsmanship after several months. My daughter is the budding violist so I questioned her for the opinion on this instrument. She likes it about as much as a used Maggini model at a local violin specialty retailer for $1500. It has nice tonal quality and very good projection, described as crisp. The strings were okay but one squeaks badly so a better set may be in order. She described the bridge as being on the thin side, likes the spaciousness of the case and that it came with a humidifier, pleased with the Brazil-wood bow. Not sure on the horsehair and resin, may contribute to the squeak issue. This model arrived as described and on time.So far and excellent value for price considering that the instrument craftsmanship is the main concern, and buying and instrument un-seen.
