Great machine! The bowl stays in the freezer. It's super easy to use and clean. If your ingredients are chilled before use, it makes a hard enough to scoop ice cream in less than 20 minutes. If your ingredients are a little warm (like if you're tempering eggs and are inpatient and just dump your mixture in without putting it in the fridge to cool first), it will make a thicker soft serve ice cream. The bowl is so cold and it doesn't take long at all to make, that I've been able to make 2 batches of hard set plus a batch of mostly hard set ice cream one right after another before putting the bowl back in the freezer. I thought if it was too much of a pain to use, I'd just give in and buy one with a built in compressor, but this one works well and I found there's no need. I'd buy it again.

I love this ice cream maker. It's a very simple device. Simply make your ice cream mix and chill it in the fridge per the directions. Freeze the metal bowl, put the mix in the bowl, and let the machine run and boom. 15-20 minutes later you have fresh churned ice cream. Delicious! Easy to clean, a little loud , but it's to be expected. A great little machine! And also, ITS PINK what's not to love?

Hardest part about this is waiting for the inner freezer to freeze! I LOVE the idea of making my own sorbets and ice cream, using only the best ingredients. My first attempt was Strawberry Lime Sorbet. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I can hardly wait to make more. I also bought the 1.5 quart containers with the silicone lids that was suggested. I’m buying more of them so I can have more flavors. It’s extremely quiet, be sure to set a timer or you’ll forget about it, lol. The pink one is stunning, I paid more for that color to support the cause.

it is built well and functions as expected, plus I mean the colour, who doesn't love hot pink. If this one ever breaks I would happily purchase again. We even use the frozen base to store drinks in for events by freezing it and filling it with ice because it stays cool for so long.

Soooooo CUTE! This makes way too much icecream for just myself and my daughter but we are newbies to the artisanal icecream world. We assembled the freezing cold inner tube thing with the lid and the churned, Pulled a can of coconut milk from the fridge and shook it up, added a splash of vanilla, a pinch of salt and some maple syrip, and 10 minutes later we had delicious homemade icecream. Honestly this is a dream - I’m looking forward to trying new recipes and having a healthier special treat while making memories with my LO.In terms of cleaning since there are only 4 parts to the whole unit it’s quite simple. I was able to rinse and wash the paddle immediately and let the inner tube soak, but in hindsight I could have boiled water to just get it over with lol. Anyway it’s a nice treat and I will consider getting an official “spare icecream” tub rather than our empty Yogurt container 😅.

I read the reviews carefully before selecting this machine. My machine arrived in perfect condition and sooner than expected. I cleaned the drum and put it in the freezer 24 hours. It was frozen solid when I used it and my ice cream came out perfect. My husband couldn't quit raving about it and how much better it tasted than store bought! It was rated highly but there were some one star ratings that said it wasn't powerful enough to thicken the ice cream and because the drum did not get cold enough to freeze the ice cream.Churning IssuesI believe that people complaining that it is not powerful enough to churn the ice cream should revisit their recipe. I found that when I put too much heavy whipping cream into the mix, it thickens really quickly and machine seems to be straining. When I used the proper mix of heavy whipping cream and milk, I didn't have that problem and the ice cream came out nice and smooth. Also, every ice cream maker creates a soft serve type consistency. If you want it to firm up, you need to dip it out of the drum and put it in the freezer for an hour or so. Also don't put bits of fruit or nuts into the churning mixture. Wait until after the ice cream is finished then fold that in my hand after you empty it into a bowl. The chunks will get caught between the paddle and drum and cause problems if you add them during the churn. Chunks are meant to be added later.Drum ProblemsYou cannot submerge the drum in water. I clearly says so in the manual. If you can't read the small print, Google Cuisinart ICE-21 Manual and download the pdf for this unit. I did that and it was way easier to read. I put mine in the freezer in the upright position for 24 hours before using it the first time. After you churn ice cream you will a medium to thick layer of ice cream welded to the interior of the drum. DO NOT scrape it out with metal utensils. I just cover mine with a paper towel and after about 15-20 minutes I scrape the sides with a soft pliable spatula. Do not scratch the interior, it will cause problems later. Also do not put the drum back into the freezer until it thaws completely out. After waiting the 15-20 and scrapping the inside, I take my drum to the sink and spray it out with warm water, being careful not to submerge it or scratch it. I dry it out with a paper towel and sit it on my counter in the upright position to finish thawing out. Then I wipe off the excess condensation from the inside and outside and put it back in the freezer in the upright position.

Update: I tried to use this ice cream maker a few days ago and it wouldn't freeze my recipe. Since other items in freezer were frozen, I assumed the freezer bowl had stopped working so I posted a negative portion to my review. When I buy a pound of bacon, I roll each slice like a jelly roll and freeze the rolls. They don't take up so much room that way and they thaw in a couple minutes. So I put a tray of rolled bacon in the freezer and it didn't freeze. True bacon has a high fat content but in a zero degrees freezer, the bacon should freeze. So on Amazon I hopped and bought two fridg/freezer thermometers to check the temp in my freezer. I wanted two so that if they were near the same temp then I'd feel they were working okay (then I'd have one for the fridge). I bought these: amazon.com/gp/product/B071F5MD27/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I don't know why this doesn't appear as a link like they usually do but the item # is B071F5MD27Turns out my freezer had warmed up to 21 degrees according to one themometer and 22 to the other (I can live with a one degree difference since it isn't possible to put both thermometers in the same exact location in freezer). The story continues but I won't bore you all with additional details but once properly frozen the ice cream maker bowl did work (I made a bowl while ago). So I deleted that negative portion of my review and now assure readers that I'm back to supporting my original review below. Should I actually have any additional problems with this maker, I'll come back. I do recommend checking temps in freezers/fridgs since had I not put the bacon in the freezer, frozen food would have stayed frozen but the freezer wasn't cold enough to freeze certain items like bacon or this ice cream maker bowl.Original review: I've owned this Cuisinart ICE-21PK Frozen-Yogurt, Ice Cream maker long enough to have made a half dozen quarts of ice cream. Since I'm the only person eating it, that is a lot of ice cream, I'm thinking!! There is a lot to like about this little freezer and topping that list is that I know what is going into the ice cream. And even using quality ingredients, it is cost efficient especially since I bought organic ice cream which is a lot more than regular ice cream. I've made vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and various fruit ice creams using the recipe book that comes with the freezer. For the fruit ice creams, I simply add a berry mix (for example) in the same amount as strawberries are called for in that ice cream recipe. So far, all have turned out firmly frozen and they stayed frozen until eaten but not so hard frozen one has to chisel it out of the container!I already owned the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream book and the only difference in the basic recipes for the ice cream maker is that Ben & Jerry's calls for whole eggs and the Cuisinart recipes do not. I looked up a peach ice cream recipe on-line and that recipe called for two egg yolks. I intend to add eggs to the next batch and if they make a great difference I'll post about that later but I imagine the eggs just add extra texture but can be left out if one has qualms about eating raw egg. All my ice creams have been super great without the egg. Keep in mind however that most bacteria, etc. will not survive freezing.I purchased the smaller quart & a half size since that makes 5 cups which will last me for a few days. I also wanted the pink freezer since it looks like ice cream! The round circular part seen in the photo has to be frozen for 24 hours before use so if one does not have a freezer, one will need to set aside that much space in their refrigerator freezer for that period. I have an upright freezer so as soon as I clean mine up from freezing a batch, I just put it back in the freezer and it stays there until I use it again. Clean-up is a breeze. Instructions for use are well explained and are simple. Two minutes and the ice cream is churning away. Mine usually freezes in 15 minutes. This is a great little ice cream maker and I'm so glad to own it. I love the ice cream I make especially since I know it is healthy, at least for a sugared item :))
