NOTE: If you don't feel like reading my story of a review, scroll to the bottom where I tried to sum up everything in point form, I also included a few tips that I learned as well.I had never heard of this product before one of my co-workers purchased one and told me about it. Needless to say, I was intrigued, and within a few weeks I had one on order and was waiting in gleeful anticipation for it to arrive. As usual, it arrived ahead of schedule and within moments of picking it up, I had it unpackaged and ready to go.So this isn't the cheapest of items, but even for this price point, I was impressed with the build quality. Everything was well thought out and intuitive to use. It took moments to set up and it wasn't long before I was ready to start my own projects. The model I bought came with the basics, A fine point blade, Standard grip mat, USB cable, manual and a few pieces of cardstock to complete the tutorial. (I do suggest doing the tutorial as it helps you wrap your head around how things work). Everything you would need to start to get started. My main reason for purchasing the Cricut was for creating my own vinyl, which I had to order separate, but the more I use it the more I think of different ideas I can make with it. It is almost mind-boggling the number of uses this Cricut machine has. From labels to stickers, to birthday cards to t-shirts. You are essentially limited by your own imagination and availability of materials. Plus there is a huge online community of already created projects that you can load in and create. One of the first official projects that I created was a custom vinyl sticker. It was fairly intricate and I wanted to test out how fine of detail it was able to do. Once I loaded the design into the online design space, I sent it to the Cricut and within moments I was staring in awe as the machine churned away, cutting out the pattern I had set up. Once it was done I took a closer look and was shocked at how fine of detail it was able to reproduce. My only complaint with this machine is perhaps the software and its footprint. In general, the software works quite well and having both desktop and mobile versions are pretty awesome, but it is not nearly as intuitive as it could be. A few things you either discover through trial and error or through online Youtube videos. There is a fairly large tutorial section with the software and online, and I would suggest watching a few videos before attempting any projects. That is unless you like wasting materials. It needs a lot of space, both front, and back. The mat runs through the machine and out the back so the standard 12"x 12" mat needs close to 3 feet in space to run everything comfortably. Just be aware of the space needed before your purchase one.So to sum everything up… This machine is awesome! It carries a fairly hefty price tag, but the amount of uses you get from it, and what it is capable of doing is extraordinary. I seem to discover new things it can do pretty much every day. Basic and templated projects are easy to create, custom gets a bit more complicated, but once you understand it it's fairly easy as well. All in all, If you are on the fence about getting one, then I say jump off and order it, you won't be disappointed.Summary:Pro:• Well built, designed, and easy to use• A huge array of accessories that allows you to create pretty much whatever you can think of• Unlimited in potential on what you can create• Works with a large number of materials• A huge online community of projects at your disposalCons:• The software can be quite confusing at first• It needs a lot of space to work. So if you are limited on room, beware before buying it.• Materials can get costly as you'll want everything!• The initial cost of the machine is pretty expensive, but it's definitely worth itTips:THE STANDARD MAT:One of the first things I tried doing was cutting out a shape on regular paper… worked fine, the only problem is the standard grip mat is pretty darn sticky. Trying to separate the paper from the mat became almost impossible and ended up tearing it and picking tiny pieces off one at a time.SPACE:At first, I treated it like a printer. Set it somewhere with lots of room at the front. I quickly realized that the mat gets pulled through the machine and out the back. So make sure you have enough space at both the front and rear of the machine before you startWEEDING:For those that don't know, it's removing the unwanted pieces from the vinyl/sticker/cardstock etc. Cricut sells weeding tools, but I found you can find much better tools for cheaper elsewhere. However, you DO need something, especially if you plan on creating detailed piecesSOFTWARE:I'd highly suggest watching some tutorials before attempting to make anything. There are certain things that don't seem obvious at first that make a huge difference in your projects. Especially for the print than cut feature.

This is an extraordinary machine! I had no idea of the hundreds of things you can do with it. I am a mix media artist and love crafting as well, specially with fabric and paper and this machine fits exactly for crafters or hobby. The Cricut works beautifully and the cuts are neat and fabulous. I dont have to buy doilies, envelopes cards, stencils, paper boxes, etc. etc. The possibilities are endless. The instructions are good, but it takes some time to really start with projects. It took me around two days, 3 hours a day, to learn the features and different designs, which is OK because the final product looks so professional that is worth the time to learn. Its amazing in how it can cut tiny details. If you are planning to use the Cricut with different projects and materials, I would recommend to get the three cutting mats. The machine comes already with a 12 x 12 regular mat, but there are some materials like heavy chipboard, felt and thick paper or fabric that will require a stronger blade and strong mat which is light violet in color. The other mat is for thin, fine, or light materials. In addition you can also purchase the 12 x 24 mat as well which is useful for big letters or banners. The only Con I found was the size of the cut and print feature. The machine can only print a cut no larger than 6 x 8" I called the company, and was informed that they are working on this issue, but have no exact date on when the upgrade for 12 x 12 prints will be available. In my case, so far I don't use it that much, but if you are going to cut transfers for t shirts, then I would not recommend it until the upgrade for larger cut and prints is available. The machine is a light and thin beautiful design and color. I had no problem in looking for a space in my crowded tiny craft room. I only had to place it in a book shelve I emptied and fit perfectly together with the tools, (not included) which I don't find that expensive. It comes with lots of images free , However, I would suggest that for only $7.99 a month you can have thousands of images, projects, and fonts. Any month you don't want to use the images, then you don't pay the $7.99 or $9.99, which is worth it. Customer Service is excellent as well as their chatting and lots ofvideos, projects, and endless ideas. Finally, you will not regret buying it.

If you have any interest in arts and crafts, this is the machine for you! I've only had my machine for a few short days, but I've already made my first few projects and know that I'll be making them with very little in the way of training. The first project is laid out with simple online instructions and took only a few minutes to complete. Once you see how easy it is to make that project, you'll be amazed at just how impressive the results can be.More importantly, you'll be given a tour of the entire process, from setting up the machine to installing the software with easy instructions and with video's directly from YouTube. There is absolutely nothing difficult about taking this machine out and beginning to use it for whatever crafting projects you have in mind.I myself got the bug from having spent a few days watching a friend working from his shop where he creates all sorts of items that this machine creates with ease, from vinyl signs, Decals made from vinyl or Sticker paper, custom business cards or Birthday cards, anything you can come up with in a print shop can be made from your own home and at a fraction of the price of one made in a professional shop.Honestly, this machine can replace your needs for any local shop, unless the dimensions are your main concern, and even in most of those cases, you can still make your own vinyl signs and decals, you'll simply have to limit the size to the available dimensions of the machine, or you'll need to paste together larger pieces on your own. This simply means that instead of having a two foot tall logo that's ten foot long, you would need to make one foot tall segments that can be two foot long each, and simply line them up to create your own sign. Most shops that advertise with vinyl signs don't use letters larger than one square foot anyway, so you'd just be making each square as an individual letter and then line them up yourself, instead of stretching one long strip to make your sign. The work isn't significantly different, so why pay multiples of the price of this machine for one sign, when you can buy the machine and make all the signs you want from that point forward? Then when you consider that this machine can work in tons of different materials, ranging from paper to vinyl, leather to copper, there really aren't many limits to what you can make with this machine. With a little time and some minimal effort, you'll be making arts and crafts projects that you can give to your friends and family, and sell at any yard sale or flea market within days of arriving at your house. The best part of all is that this machine is tiny. It's footprint is so small that I have mine setup on a tiny table that was no longer needed in my living room. I simply placed a towel over the table to prevent it from being scratched, and I was set. I'm just now learning how to make more creative designs like custom boxes and bows, but with no time I'll be making those with ease.My only advice is that if you decide to buy one of these amazing machines, make sure you get everything you'll need to explore your own creativity. Make sure to buy all the add-ons, things like the deep cut blade, the paper crafting tools, the basic crafting tools and the scoring stylus and a set of the color pens for your own messages. From there, buy some quality paper card stock, Oracal 651 vinyl in all the best colors for simple designs or for more intricate designs, making sure to buy all the popular colors such as your primary colors, but also metallic colors such as gold or chrome, get lots of black and white as you'll be using those the most, and without fail, but transfer tape, lots of transfer tape, because having yard after yard of vinyl will do you no good if you can't actually place it on something, so transfer tape is equally important to your needs. Buy more transfer tape/paper than vinyl, because you'll almost always need transfer tape that hangs over the edges of your vinyl cutouts so that you can layer different colors or have the vinyl decal hold in place so that you can align it to whatever your placing it on.Buy a good exacto blade knife, your going to be using it constantly if you decide vinyl crafting is for you. I'd recommend you purchase a good cutting device, whether that be a guillotine style cutter or rotary cutter, make sure you buy one large enough for your vinyl or paper needs, so it will need to be at least one foot wide and long enough to cut lengths of a foot accurately. Some of those cutters don't come with a space long enough to cut squares of one foot so make sure you chose one with either an extension that will let you measure one square foot, or you'll be guessing beyond the length of the cutting device itself, or you'll need to mark the vinyl somehow and that will end up just eating up your time. From that point, you can decide if you need specialty materials, things like faux leather, copper foil that's normally found in rolls but also comes in sheets for use with the scoring tool to make beautiful embossed pieces, heat transfer vinyl that comes in several glittery colors or regular colors for making iron on designs that can go on everything from pants or shirts, to caps or other clothing items. They offer magnetic sheets that you can use to make magnetic business cards or decals, printable sticker paper, heat transfer jewels (bedazzle style gemstones), or any other material you wouldn't imagine needing but will find out once you've installed the software on your pc or phone, and are able to browse the online design shop.Whether your just an everyday tinkerer that needs something to fill your time, or you want to create your own small business out of your living room, this machine is well worth your time and money! Best of all, you don't have to take my word for it, just go on YouTube and research Cricut projects and you'll get a sampling of exactly what you'll be able to make with this amazing machine!
