Child was using these at school and liked them so we got some for home. Works well - easy to color with, doesn’t break.

I buy these mostly for shading caricatures. The black works fantastic for monochrome portraits but the colors did not blend well in the way that I needed. I would still recommend this product if you want to casually shade large areas but not blend them.

I’m a color pencil artist. I needed these in a pinch for a portrait. They are great to get a large area on paper covered smoothly. Work great. They do break easily. Mine all came in one piece. Didn’t take me long to break one though!

These are awesome!!! I was introduced to these through a local art museum program. They are perfect for toddlers. They seem easy for my 3 year old to hold and they have survived being dropped and him using them very aggressively. They did break when he purposely tried to break them during a tantrum moment, but otherwise, they survived so much better than I expected. I have told a lot of moms about these and will be gifting them for Christmas to a few friends!

I love these for the vibrant colors but I wish they came sharpened like a pencil. They are shaped like chalk pastels, where they are a long rectangle. They quality is really nice, they cover the area you’re coloring nicely, just would be nice to have a point to start with to be able to get to more detail. As far as for kids, these are great, no more melted crayons in the car, no papers to tear off, and they are pretty sturdy. So far, no broken pieces!

These are truly awesome! Our 2yo autistic son likes to draw (scribble) on paper but often breaks the crayons, peels the paper off, digs his nails into the wax, etc. These color sticks are extremely strong. He hasn't broken one yet and I put some pressure on one and it didn't budge. There's no paper on them so they can be turned on their hexagonal side and colored with. They're much harder than crayons so he doesn't dig his nails into them. They also last a very long time. There really aren't any downfalls to these, they're truly great. Highly recommended!

My daughter's a grade school art teacher and recommended these for my three preschooler-aged grandchildren, including her two-year-old son who (of course!) knows all of his colors. I used these myself on Christmas morning with the two-year-old and found that they apply evenly and with a variety of "stroke-widths." Also, they do not leave your hands with any tackiness or smell that you can get from waxy crayons that have had their labels peeled back. These will last for years in nice condition (according to the art supply expert who has these in her classroom) so that is why I purchased the 24-color set for the older granddaughters. I thought they might better appreciate the greater color selection. There are characteristics of common crayons that I dislike, and these Color Sticks seem to address these shortcomings well. I already mentioned the need to peel the paper wrapper on conventional crayons, as well as the smell and the tackiness that simply do not factor into the use of Color Sticks. When I was young, for example, I did not like how waxy crayons would often leave little smudge-y flecks of crayon on the paper when you apply greater pressure. From my brief experience using Color Sticks, this is not a problem. These are very nice to use and offer nice, satisfying results. I wish more parents could try Color Sticks because they would surely want their children to have a better art making experience.Too bad these are not more widely available at retail because parents who are sick of messy, broken crayons rolling everywhere might very well spring for the higher price for a nicer product. (And maybe the price would not remain as high!) After my daughter suggested Color Sticks for gifts, I looked in a leading craft chain and several mass market retailers that carry children's art supplies and did not see this product. Although I do use Amazon for a lot of gift purchases, I at least wanted to see them but I couldn't find them anywhere that people would look to purchase children's art materials. Maybe Crayola doesn't want to cut into its own sales of crayons, and instead targets art educators who have limited funds for "investing" in crayons.Perhaps the company relies on adults thrilling kids with a fresh box of (cheap) wax crayons every couple of months because their old ones are not as functional or as appealing as they once were. In marketing, that's called planned obsolescence. No wonder that Color Sticks aren't widely advertised to the consumer market!
