Brushless motors tens to have significant benefits over brushed motors in similar tools. Unfortunately the motor in this saw is not a brushless motor. Based on this alone I am giving it two stars. One might be more appropriate for such false advertising.

I used it cutting some thick wall steel square tube at welded points - granted not the easiest material... It did cut through a few pieces, and did reasonably well, and never quit the way another cordless saw I tested did. It was reasonably comfortable and didn't vibrate and shake any worse than any other recip saw that I've used, but wasn't any better either...After 4-5 cuts the motor area started getting uncomfortably hot to hold. After a couple more I started to get a small amount of smoke out the motor vents. It didn't smell like burning electronics, so might have just been manufacturing oil, but.... I also noticed some sparking through the motor vent openings, which isn't unusual for a brushed motor, but this is supposed to be a brushless motor...I then broke out my corded Milwaukee, swapped the blade from this saw onto it, and made a bunch more cuts, which took about half the time and much less effort per cut.....Bottom line, this saw is light, and not bad to use, but is not up to the sort of work that is easy with a corded saw... I'd be OK using it for light duty "onsie-twosie" cuts or if I didn't have easy AC power, but any sort of serious work I'm heading for the 'big city' of Milwaukee (SawzAll)
