This was the first electric hand planer I used, so I do not have much reference, but it accomplished what I needed it to. It is a lot cheaper than the Dewalt equivalent, and works as described.I am built an 18 ft beam and needed to make sure the top was flat. Some of the wood had bowed and needed trimmed. Using a Dewalt 5 amp battery, I was able to quickly flatten it out. If you push too hard the system does stall, but once you get the feeling of how to hold it, and how much pressure, it works well.I definitely recommend attaching it to a vacuum. Once attached it hardly makes any dust. Having the option to extract from either side is nice. Why only 4 stars? I think there is a bit of quality difference between the real thing and this, but the price is worth it for me. I am not sure how long it will last, but for my use it should be worth the savings. I definitely can recommend it for occasional use.

I would have given this tool five stars, but you will need to replace the blades if you use it very much and the instructions for blade replacement are pathetic (see more below).I bought this because I already have many DeWalt batteries and this was cheaper than the DeWalt planer. It worked to very quickly bring joists down to the same height before applying flooring boards. (I wish I had it earlier, to plane the bottom of the joists when trying to install ceiling sheet rock on uneven joists.) When you hit an embedded broken off nail, it will immediately chip the blades (one or both of the two blades installed on the drum). So if you are working on old joists, you need spare blades. Buy them now, don't wait. The instructions to replace the blades were misleading, maybe wrong. (I am not an expert, so please verify these instructions with someone who knows what they are talking about; these "instructions" are just my uninformed opinion.) First, don't try to loosen or tighten the allen wrench set screws, initially. Their purpose is to set the height/depth of the blade and its mounting cassette, before you tighten it back into place. Take a picture of the blade before you remove it so you can re-install it back to the same depth. If you do not change the allen wrench screws when you remove the blade, hopefully you will not need to change them when you put the new blade back in. To remove the blade, the three bolts in the black steel blade cassette must be turned. They look like nuts on a threaded shaft, but that is an optical illusion. They are really bolts screwed into the black steel blade mounting cassette. When being installed, they are "backed off" so that they "wedge" the blade mounting cassette in place. There are no threaded holes in the aluminum spinning cylinder--the black steel blade cassette is held in place by friction and geometry, not bolt holes. So, when you remove the blade you have to turn the small bolts TOWARD the blade/cassette, not away from it. (I would say turn them CLOCKWISE but that assumes you know to look at these bolts down from their top, rather than incorrectly thinking they are nuts that you are viewing from the bottom and turning counter-clockwise.---Hence, just turn these bolts so they screw INWARD TOWARD the black blade casesette.) That is counter-intuitive, but what that does is it un-wedges the blade and its black steel cassette from against the walls of the aluminum cylinder. Once you are able to remove the cassette, the rest will be intuitive, as the cassette and blade easily slide out when the bolts are screwed in all the way. If it's not obvious to you what to do at this point, when you have the cassette and blade in your hands, you should probably stop now and get some help. This tool spins at an incredible velocity, and if something flies off because you did not put it back together correctly, someone could get seriously hurt. Also, if you need to be told to wear eye protection when working with this tool (if it hasn't occurred to you already), you are dangerous and also should consider not using this tool to begin with. A basic understanding of safety is necessary when operating this tool. Maybe you should watch a few online videos about power tool safety. Hope that helps, and saves at least one eye.

Mellif is my new go-to brand for quality products that utilize DEWALT (and other brand) batteries. I have subscribed to the DEWALT platform for years and have plenty of batteries, so why not utilize a discount brand that is made to accept DEWALT batteries? I have bought numerous tools made by Mellif, and have yet to be disappointed. These tools exhibit very comparable features and quality to the actual DEWALT brand tools at a mere fraction of the cost. This Mellif Cordless Handheld Planer is no exception. It has all of the features of the DEWALT brand tool and then some, and is much more comfortable in my hand and has a much quieter operation. Replacement blades are easy to find and easy to change, and are reversible, so you get twice the life from them. As far as cordless handheld planers go, Mellif has my vote!!

I own a number of DeWalt 20v cordless tools and love them. This planner has a high RPM and although I've only used it a few times, it's better than I hoped and is as good as the Bosch electric planner I had before it got stolen.

This is the first cordless planer I have owned but so far it seems very good. I found that it will rebate five sixteenth inch deep and plane to one sixteenth per pass. The little blade wrench is stored on the side too and it uses standard replacement knives. Being over a third less cost than a DeWalt it seems a reasonable choice for the occasional user. The two way dust shute is great as is the dust bag. I had trust in Mellif after using their cordless pruning saw which works so well and this tool seems to be of similar quality. The pictures show the carton it comes in which is pretty sturdy for storage and less bulky than a case might be.

Fantastic product. My foundation moves and my doors stick, and I can do all sorts of tricks with the hinges but when I just need to shave a little off the actual door it's very difficult to hand plane them (specifically the head where there is wood end grain). This adjusts very minutely and allows me to just take the paint off all the way to taking a good chunk of wood off if I want to. Really easy to use.
