I received the grate today and smoked salmon steaks for dinner. Nice to be able to easily add additional charcoal and wood chips. Grill is stainless steel with fold back panels on two sides for easy addition of briquets. Easy to clean up, although I cooked on aluminum foil. the grill could be heavier wire, but is substantial enough to last a long time.

The standard Weber grills for the Big Joe Kettle grill were lasting about a year and a half. The chrome plate eventually wears off and the steel corrodes quickly.This unit solves the corroding problem by being made of stainless steel. It is just a difficult to clean as the standard unit but for a couple the center insert is adequate for grilling a couble of steaks or burgers. The center can then be removed for cleaning which is easy to get into a sink.The unit is well made and heavy duty. You have to let the grate preheat longer than with the standard grill if you like grid marks on your meat. Stainless steel is a poor conductor of heat so give it more time to heat up.

For some reason, the grate that came with my new Weber Kettle didn’t last long and I had several rods break from their weld.This replacement is great! Fits perfectly and so far, has held up well.Good price too.
