Setting the bore gauge to zero with a master or micrometer allows you to see the difference in the bore that you are measuring so a precise measurement can be performed. Looked good on the add however the quality of the box and size marking plates were horrible. When I received it one size marking plate fell out of the box and several others were ready to do the same. I expected more from comp. Cams because they had been good on other items I had recieved.

I bought this as it was a Comp Cams dial bore indicator and I recognized the name. However, there are no markings on the indicator stating it is from Comp Cams, or manufactured for Comp Cams. There are no directions on how to use it. I couldn't figure out how to actually measure the bore diameter. The diameter I think I had calculated is off by 10 thousands from what it should have measured. So is the gauge is off or did I calculate incorrectly? I don't really know. But, as far as measuring for taper in the bore or whether it is oblong, the dial indicator seemed to work correctly, and I could check my bores for tolerance that way. I give it 3 stars for reasonable cost and a seemingly accurate bore measurement, 2 off as it had no directions on how to use and it may be off slightly. I looked at a Snap-On digital bore indicator from my dealer for $465, so in perspective, this did the job at a lot less cost.

the set came in on time, and was packaged very nicely. I love the heavy weight feel of them, and after looking them over I would swear they are the same thing we used in school very effectively.
