Brittle.About myself; a master fabricator, welder, machinist. Doing it for 50+ years.I like the original design, still have a few from "Premier Fastener". A tap drill cut on the end of a tap. These simply shatter at the very first attempt in 6061-T6 quarter inch thick sheet broke at the very first entry of the threaded section in attempt to make a 10-32 threaded hole. I was hoping to thread through making 5 threads. If these were properly made, they might do steel (as advertised). So don't be duped, don't buy. Must be made of chinezium. Will attempt returning the item.

Upon initial inspection, the casing of the product felt inexpensive, which was confirmed upon opening as the latch immediately detached. Furthermore, the bits are not securely held in place. The bits themselves are functional, albeit rather dull, as evidenced when attempting to drill through thin metal.

This was a lifesaver when I couldn't get to the tool store. On top of that these were a good price, delivered right to me. I had an install that included bolts with baked on powder-coat paint into the threads. That coating was stripping the steel threads of the nuts I tried to "fix it" with. In the end, this set of dies saved me a potential expensive replacement part.

I never used a tap set before but I needed only 1 tap for my project which worked perfectly. Used it to create 4 6mm threads and repaired and existing thread that had been damaged.Now that I have a full set, I'm ready to make or repair any bolt thread.

I needed this for the 12x1.25 die and tap. Cheaper sets didn't have that particular size. I cross-threaded a captured stud on a Toyota and needed to re-cut the threads. The die did the job easily with some Tap Magic. I also cleaned up the cross-threaded nut with the matching tap. The sizes were identical between the two. That bodes well for the other pieces in the set.Other reviews have gone over some of the shortcomings of the case. Yep, still there. That's fine since it's what's inside that matters.

This tap and die set has worked for several small projects. The storage case is a little cheap, but the tools themselves seem to be of good quality for occasional use. Overall good purchase for the money and better quality than the cheap Harbor Freight sets.

I bought this set to tap the occasional metric hole and chase / renew messed up threads. Very large range of sizes. Taps and dies look good for the money. Decent grinding, no obvious flaws. Tap handles, wrenches and die stocks look so so. The die stock bodies are die castings. Not too concerned about them, have older USA made ones I can use. I imagine they would be OK though. The one fly in the ointment are the case inserts.They are very flimsy plastic. They will not retain the contents. The set arrived with half the contents all over the inside. Don't plan on carrying the case like a suitcase. The contents will get scrambled. I think I will cut pieces of thin plexiglas or heavy cardboard to put over each layer to make sure the contents don't fall out of the wells. Both inserts need to sit in the bottom of the case on top of each other. The one insert will not sit in the top of the case as shown in the photo. Also, one photo shows a thread pitch gauge, this is not included. I have some, so not a big deal. If you need a metric one or a thread checker, order one when you buy the set. Overall a good value for the price, given its one big flaw.Edit / Update - I cut two thin pieces of plastic and put one over each tray. When the case is closed the plastic keeps the contents in the individual wells. Problem solved.
