These are smooth and I haven't broken the one I'm using yet. Off to a perfect start. I have a giant pack of cheap needles that work fine but break sometimes and don't always go through aida smoothly. I use them when I can't find my Tulip needle tube or don't feel like ordering 6 needles for 7-10$. I packed a bunch of stuff for a move and decided to get these and some bohin needles to change things up instead of searching boxes for the Tulips. These are great. I can only compare them to the cheap ones and Tulips. So far, I love them. For whatever reason, though, they're fatter than the Tulips and the Bohins. Same size(24) for all of them. But these are wee chonks. I haven't noticed any stretching in the fabric but it definitely takes more pressure to get it through the aida holes.I do not regret my purchase and will definitely continue to use them. Just might have to get smaller ones when I kill the 6 of these.

I cross-stitch a lot, and John James needles stand the test of time. I've been rotating between the same two needles from this pack for almost a year now, and neither of them have broken or even tarnished- same with John James needle packs I've gotten in other sizes. Totally worth trying if you haven't used these before, they are fantastic.

Working with 3 strands of DMC at a time, and these needles are so easy to thread! They are well made, I highly recommend them.

These are my favorite tapestry needles for most fabrics. I seldom stitch on 14/28 count, using them primarily with 16-18 count aida and 32 count linen/evenweaves. Other needles cause a great deal of hand fatigue because they don't glide through aida fabric smoothly, often needing a tug to pass pull the eye through the holes. Not these. Even with the stiffest 18 count aida, the needle glides through the fabric with no tugging needed.I'm a longtime John James fan, using these primarily, and sizes 24-26 for higher-count weaves like 22 count hardanger and 25 count lugana. They cost more than DMC, but they're worth it.

Item is not as pictured. The picture shows John James needles MADE IN ENGLAND, product received are imported needles. I ordered these hoping to receive some good English needles, not imported trash that John James puts their name on. It is a real shame to see a once respectable company that built a reputation for quality reduced to repackaging this excrement.

The package was 8" wide x 3" high X 6" deep and had lots of tape on it, all for a $2.00 package of needles that could have been sipped in an envelope. It is a waste of packaging for the item. The item itself was great.
