This coin tester is very easy to use and provides excellent results when used with the phone app. It is made of metal and has a nice heavy feel. The scale on the top is handy for measuring coin diameters. The kit includes extra silicone tips for holding the coins. To use the tester the coin is placed between the silicone tips and struck with the wooden stick. The ringing sound produced varies greatly with different coins. I downloaded one of the phone apps and it listens to the ringing from the coin and verifies the authenticity. I found it to be very accurate. It was hard to compare prices for these items because there are not a lot of models for sale. I feel the quality is good but the price is a little high. I would shop around for a cheaper one next time.

This is a well-designed tool. It holds coins firmly but gently, and the included wooden rod makes it easy to tap coins without damaging them.Unfortunately, at least two of the apps shown in the description require a subscription for use. A third, Pingcoin, does NOT require a subscription, but has a limited selection of coins to test.Pingcoin does a good job of distinguishing 90% silver half dollars from clad half dollars. It's not sure what to do with 40% silver half dollars. It's similarly uncertain with worn 90% silver quarters.I would be confident using this tool and the Pingcoin app to check silver dollars and half dollars. I'd be less confident using it on smaller coins. I assume it's at least as reliable on gold coins as it is on silver. For the price, it's a good tool to have on hand. I just wish the app selection were a little better.
