About this item

  • With 30 degree helix
  • With 135 degree drill point, allowing for a cleaner drill hole and less slippage when starting
  • High-speed steel tools are good for most general purpose applications, offering a combination of hardness and toughness for wear resistance
  • Black oxide treatment adds lubricity and creates small pockets on the surface of the tool that act to hold coolant near the cutting edge
  • Morse taper shank allows the tool to be inserted directly into the machine's spindle to facilitate high-torque applications such as large cut diameters
  • Made in the USA

I don’t see these Morse taper drills as much today. It is refreshing as they are very accurate to the lathe center line va a Jacobs chuck. They are more ridgid. The best part is it has a coating which will aid in drilling harder materials like 4140pre hard. It is not as good as a gold Altin coating but it is still much better than an uncoated drill. The best feature is the 135deg split point tip. It is much much better at drilling without a heavy center drill and it makes a chip with ease. Keeping the drill sharp longer.* most common drilling mistakes are using too fast rpm.

I've used both Chicago Latrobe 110 and Cleveland 2410 High Speed Drills and I see them as nearly identical. Whichever is a lower price between these 2 brands, buy that one. They are both industrial quality and very rugged. I've literally used some Cleveland taper-shank drills for over 40 years. I saw another comment about sharpening, but that should be expected in an industrial setting anyway. The manufacturer can't predict how they will be used, so you can sharpen them to suit your specific project needs. Great drills for the machinist in all of us.
