This LA SALT CO Citric Acid is food grade, so it's perfect for descaling kettles. We have really hard water, so after a week or so of daily use, we usually have to descale our kettle. A half tablespoon or so of this citric acid mixed into the kettle does the trick. We add the citric acid, bring it to a boil, the pour out the kettle and rinse out the citric acid solution. It's like magic and gets our kettle clean and looking like new in no time.I've recently bought a water distiller and the same issue as the kettle arises. Again, a bit of this citric acid brought to a boil makes cleaning the distiller a breeze. You might find less expensive options out there, but if you're using it on anything that you drink from I'd opt for food grade and pay just a bit more to be safe. The jar is convenient and keeps the citric acid from becoming too moist and clumping up. Great buy!

5 pounds is A LOT of citric acid. This is doing to last forever! It's super versatile since it's food grade- it can be used for beverages ages canning, but also for scent free cleaning. It's especially handy bc I am very into tea & coffee, so I have a lot of pieces & several machines to use this on for stain removal and machine maintenance.

This citric acid was so freaking good. I was worried it would not work as intended but yesss it did. I love that it’s food grade. First, I had limescale in the kettle from people using it and never cleaning it, I think the last time I cleaned that kettle was six years ago, maybe even earlier than that. I came back from college and never used that kettle again because it was like they never cleaned it while I was away. I got this citric acid and decided I’d be kind and do the work and decided to clean it. I put two tablespoons of this in the kettle and filled the kettle up and boiled it.After the first boil, I let it sit for a few hours because I forgot about it. I boiled it again once I remembered, dumped the water out, and wooo it was sooo shiny in the inside. This citric acid was amaaaazing. It was super easy to use.I also used it to make butter biscuits, like the pastries, not the cookies. Those tasted great too!

Since citric acid may be used for so many things, it's a good idea to keep some on hand. However, if citric acid is exposed to moisture, it will deteriorate, and the more times you open the jar, the more probable it is that humidity will seep in and spoil the batch. The majority of this will be vacuum-sealed into 4-ounce mason jars and stored in my long-term food storage pantry. In addition to being a nice size to keep in the kitchen for some of the food preservation tasks I perform (such as canning and fermenting), a 4-ounce jar will be ideal for pouring into a 6-7 quart stainless steel bowl of water to soak potatoes or fruits and prevent them from browning.
