A an aircraft electrician for over 25 years and a fix-it everything at home, this is a very useful tool in troubleshooting damaged wires. I used to call a similar tool like this the Fox and the Hound. How it works is you place batteries in both units. Connect the one unit to the end of the wire you are troubleshooting with the red and black alligator clamps. Take the other unit with a speaker and run it from the starting point down the main harness run. When you find a break in the wire, the second unit will sound an alarm notifying you that there is an open in the wire. A TDR is the only other way to try to locate broken wires in a harness but this tool is very simple and easy to use by anyone.

I did not think it would work. But, it does work. It was easy to hook up. and to trace a wire . I like it.
