Excellent tool to aid in the understanding and creative application of music therapy.Well made, easy to see and the included teaching aids are excellent. A couple of typos on the instructions which could easily confuse a beginner, but still a wonderful aide.

This Circle of 5ths is metal and sits on a nice wood stand. It comes with an instruction booklet, a small and large chord chart for guitar, and a small fabric bag for storage or travel. The quality is excellent. It is a nice compact unit that takes up little room on a desk. Although I wouldn't recommend this to a beginner, once you have a basic understanding, the Circle of 5ths can become a great learning tool regardless of the instrument you play.

Nice quality and its pretty solid, no flimsiness here and the lettering is printed evenly and clearly. Is one of those tools (complete with its paper charts to help study) that I wish I had when I was first learning to play. This wheel reinforces the circle of fifths as a quick reference, and the slide will keep you in range (or at least give you ideas where to go with whatever you are working on). One of the reasons I wish I had this wheel back then though, is that I now need glasses to read the letters or even scales these days, so I'll have to consider color coding it just for a roadmap at a glance. I enjoy that it has a pick holder for convenience, and the wood base looks nice and clean with the black wheel contrasting, so you can just leave it out anywhere and it doesn't look out of place. The only other thing I would say is that this wheel (and music theory for that matter) is and isn't for beginners. Just getting started you are going to have to learn all sorts of new things in order to make best use of. Very nice.

I really like this device! It is designed to help a guitarist (or ANY musician) gain some knowledge about the Circle of Fifths and thus the fundamental structure of music. There is a plethora of information offered in a reasonable way. The device itself is actually pretty user friendly once you have some grasp of what it can tell you. I would say you REALLY NEED TO READ THE MATERIAL SENT WITH THE WHEEL. It will help.On that note, my only noteworthy criticism is that much of this information will most likely be over the head of the beginner or the early student. It presumes knowledge that many musicians do not have. I have been a performing musician for several decades. All of my training and instruction was focused on technique and the fundamental skills of performing. I studied piano for about 12 years and could once play at a fairly high level. I also had teachers in voice, saxophone, clarinet, guitar, and recorder. And after many years of performance I had never been taught any significant music theory. Only later in life while first moving to jazz improvisation was I truly exposed to the Circle of Fifths and the larger picture of music theory. I would have found the information with the wheel difficult to follow when I first began to study music theory.Having said that, this is just the coolest little device! It reveals so much about how music works along with practical information that will help the musician to perform at a higher level and even open the door for understanding and doing composition. As stated, I have only come to music theory in recent years (and I am ancient). Being invited to learn and play jazz improv pushed me to comprehend music on a much deeper level. To do improv well, you need to have a fairly broad range of exposure to the structure of music. With that, you learn a lot about “where to go” while playing with just a lead sheet (more or less an outline of a song with chord progressions and the melody). It has been the most challenging and most fun part of my journey as a musician. THIS DEVICE CAN HELP YOU GET THERE!I recommend this item with great zeal!Do the work. Learn the art and science. Practice a LOT. And when you play, open your heart and LIVE!

For $30 current price, you get a lot with this kit. First, the wheel itself is made of aluminum, instead of wood as some are. Second, it is packaged with some helpful printed material: A sheet that explains how to use the wheel, and a guitar chord chart suitable for hanging on the wall. The chord chart isn't as large as some, and you'd have to stand fairly close to it to see how to fret the chords, but it's printed on good-quality paper and looks good. The wheel also comes with a wooden stand, which allows you to display it, and also is a handy way to keep track of where it is so it doesn't get lost under papers and books. The wheel is fairly small - palm-size or a little larger. That can be good or bad depending on how you prefer to use it. Personally, I'd have liked it to be a little larger diameter, but some people may prefer it to be smaller so it takes up less space and is easier to transport with less risk of bending it.

Over the years, I've had a couple of carboard circle of 5ths, but they always ended up dog-eared or bent up. This solves it. If you're not familiar with the circle of 5ths or the Standard Harmony Rule, this is a great way to get up to speed with it. Even if you are already conversant with it, it makes for a quick reference/reminder of the structure. The front side is typical of what you would see on any circle of 5ths and the back side shows you the chord structure for most all of the major and minor chords, plus the tall chords.Having this on a metal disk that is very sturdy is a nice addition to a music practice room. The wooden stand that it sits in will look at home on top of a desk, a shelf or the top of an amp. There are also slots cut into the wooden base which will hold picks. The only thing against it is that in order for the circle to sit at a slight back angle, the pics will be on the back of the base and out of site.It also comes with a booklet showing the appropriate chords for each key, according to the standard harmony rule, with the I, IV and V as major chords, the ii, iii, and vi as minor and the vii chord diminished. It shows the "cowboy" chords for each key in the booklet. There is also a poster sized matching guitar chord chart.
