PresentationThe ‎Urbify Charcoal Château - 24 Charcoal Pencils were supplied in a vert nicely packaged and presented cardboard carton with a hanging loop at the top for a rack type display. The front of the box depicts a puppy drawing as a work in progress, and there are details of the 6 of each types of pencil hardness units in the box, the reverse details this further with examples.First ImpressionsOpening and checking the contents, the pencils are all black with lettering stating “Charcoal Pencils” and then the type, that being Extra Soft, Soft, Medium or Hard and a coloured ring near the top which identifies the type Extra Soft is white, Soft is blue, Medium is yellow, Hard is red.Day To Day UseThese feel premium, they are well made, sharpened ready for use, and are quite lightweight so easy to manoeuvrer. In the hand the pencils sit easy, they appear too be just perfect for my fingers, which are quite slender and I get a good solid grip using them. In terms of their drawing performance, I felt they provided a good contrast between types but can be blended or used as needed for edging and fine or heavy lines. Sharpening is always a little more finicky with these charcoal cores which are known to snap much easier than lead, and as such I tend to use a Stanley knife or a craft type knife to get a good point.Summing UpI would definitely recommend these, they are a good value set for a quality set that work very well and produce excellent drawing results.

I haven't used charcoal in years! The last time I did, it was when it was in those small sticks and your hands went all black! So these were a great find! The box was a little broken up and the inside of the box was messy from the charcoal, but the pencils themselves are lovely to use. They were scratchy on the paper, which bugged me a little, but they drew nicely, smudged well, and produced some nice artwork. It was fun to go back to a medium that I haven't used in years. If you haven't used charcoal before, or, like me, haven't used it in a long time, these are a nice set of pencils to get you going. Recommended. xXx

I haven’t drawn with Charcoals for quite some time, but really wanted to get back in to it.These came up on Vine for review so I ordered a pack to try out.I have used Charcoal Pencils before from other brands that are probably more recognisable, I hadn’t heard of Ubify until receiving these. I did try to google the brand but they don’t seem to come up in many places, just Amazon and one other site. All that said, these seem to be decent quality pencils. I’ve only had a few goes with them to practice at the moment, but I like how they feel in the hand, and they are easy to blend and manipulate on the paper. You get a good selection from Extra Soft to Hard and 6 of each, so they should last a while. One advantage of the pencil format for charcoal is that you can sharpen it easier without getting it all over yourself, that said, but the time you need to sharpen it you’ve probably got a load of dust all over your hands anyway.Charcoal is a lovely medium to work with, and for just shy of £20 I feel like this is good value for money. If you take a brand like Derwent they’re currently around £11 for 6 pencils (including a white one which is useful!). You get a lot for money here.
