Just be sure to line up the tools punch rod to the pin connecting the chain links and fully clamp it down to prevent snapping.

I tried to use this item to break a link of 520 chain. It was absolute garbage.I used the product properly: I aligned the link with the pin in the slot and snugged the outer bolt flush to the link and centered on the pin before tightening the center pusher pin.The problem is that with any bit of force the spine of the frame bends, and puts everything out of square.Then the pin bends internally, or the link even pops out from breaker. Absolutely useless and ended up having to grind the link off.I imagine this unit might work on a significantly smaller chain, but for 520, for which it is advertised to work, it's pure trash. >: (

Good value to have handy. Not sure how long they’ll last, but they did what I needed them to do.

If you position the tool correctly and use its vice to hold it in position, you will have no problem pushing the link pin out. Why people have broken these i have no idea. You can hold it in one hand and turn the press with the other. Easy!
