The instrument is mechanical. Three point (Two wheels and a lead core) contact the tested surface always to ensure the pencil and the tested surface forms the angle of 45 degrees, so as to push the movement of the instrument, to complete the testing process. This set comes with a trolley car for pencils, weights for the car, a set of pencils of a range of hardnesses, a blade and an eraser -- exactly as shown in the photos. The test to determine the pencil hardness of coatings is really simple and this set provides you with more than enough tools to get repeatable results.
