Upon initial inspection this portable drill press seems to be a decent design for an excellent cost. While such a product will never meet the standards of a machinists drill press, this buyer needed it only for reasonably accurate wood working. But after close inspection, a defect was found. The very poor quality of the arbor shaft bearing allowed a run-out of about 0.010 inch at the tip of the arbor shaft screw upon which the drill chuck is mounted. This translates into a much larger run-out at tip of any drill inserted into the chuck. So this should be a cautionary note for any perspective buyer. One can use this in some applications, but by no means all. Otherwise, if accuracy is what's needed, use a stationary drill press or a similar product with a better arbor shaft bearing.

The reviews of this drill guide and others identical to it on Amazon make it look like a terrible tool. I was surprised at how well it was able to keep a straight hole and keep a generally good angle. I used this to drill through a grade 5 titanium pipe and it worked fine. However, the drill bit did get a bit stuck in the middle from not being 100% straight and I got concerned for a moment that I wouldn't get it out without breaking the bit. The actual chuck itself kept slipping too until I was able to tighten it up super tight.I wouldn't recommend this if you are looking for something that drills the same quality straight hole as a drill press. Or if you are drilling through something harder and requires more force than what I was drilling through. But if you want a moderately straight hole and can't afford a drill press or need something drilled on a slight angle, this will definitely do the trick. As the other reviews mention, they are correct that the actual build quality of some of the parts is not all too great, but I would guess that other more expensive drill guides on Amazon would be the same way. Other reviews make it out as if this drill guide is comparatively bad quality to others on Amazon even though the parts that are metal appear to the same on more expensive ones. The whole thing is aluminum except for the parts that actually hold the angle. Which is the weakest point and really should have been made aluminum like the rest. There are also no instructions on how to put it together and it's not too easy because it requires pushing and holding the springs up on each guide in place while they are screwed in place.

Not for high precision work but better than free handing. Slathering lots of grease helps

it's a little flimsy but I am not using to mass produce anything .... if you are only drilling a few holes ( I drilled like twelve in a bench I built for myself) then this product should suffice just fine

There’s a fair amount of complexity to this device for the price so I really can’t complain that the rigidity is so so. In particular the plastic brackets that are part of the screw tightening assembly setting the angle/entry path for your drill. It’s a little wobbly, even as tight as I can make it and I attribute that to the Plastic connections, but it does work, and for my limited use and satisfied with the combination of functionality and price. I wouldn’t want to pay two or three times more for a device that was incrementally stouter, though I could feel differently if I had experience with a stronger design.

Like others- Different product on box, taped up and beat up box. No instructions. Angle adjustment is nowhere near precise, and is a plastic-to-metal interface. Better off having a beer with the $24 and then hand-drilling. Likely will have similar results and you will still have your change. I get it's inexpensive, but if you can't drill a straight hole, then the tool is pointless.

i got this to drill holes on pvc, i does the job but there is no instructions on the box, so i kind of put it togheter based on the picture from the box, the button to secure the height broke after a couple of uses as its plastic it didnt resist and it was getting loose anyway after using it a few times. The part that secure the drill bits comes loose pretty easy too, finnaly was able to get it tight after a lot of times trying to get it there. It works for small jobs where precision is not your objective.

I needed to drill some perpendicular holes in railroad ties for a patio fence. For a $20 something, it worked quite well.
