The history of Japanese sake can be traced back to the Yayoi period (4th century -3rd century), when the rice culture was introduced to Japan and brewing techniques subsequently emerged.Sake has a history of nearly two thousand years in Japan, with the earliest documented records dating back to around 715 in the "Harima Kunikki".

In the Nara period, the important process of making koji for sake was introduced from China to Japan, and the prototype of modern sake was established during the Nara period.

  • Ceramic sake cup, suitable for hot, room temperature or cold sake

In the Heian period, the brewing process was basically established, and various production methods, procedures, and processes were written in the "Yanxi style" of the legal book.

This is an OK set of sake cups that come in a generic/unmarked box. They are well wrapped and well protected, which is always appreciated. The cups are well made with a clean pour to the porcelain and no awkward bumps or drips. The paint/wrap job on the cups is a bit poor with the image of most broken at the bend. Overall it's a cute starter set that is just a tad small for most sake drinkers, but would make a nice set for those exploring Japanese culture and sake. The tray is a handy touch for displaying the set and is well made as well.

The design is cute. I usually prefer the more traditional “shibui” or elegant designs but this one is fun. It’s a quality build and durable. The size is appropriate for sake

I absolutely love this set - it is well made and I love the design. The only problem is that the tokkuri bottle is a bit too small to be practical - especially if you are trying to serve 4. The bottle can pour exactly 4 servings of these cups - so you can serve 4 people 1 cup of sake each and you'll need to refill it.If you are drinking by yourself, this will work but if you are trying to drink with others, look for something with a larger bottle. I posted a photo comparing this bottle to another bottle I have for reference.

This looks even better than I was hoping. I'm using it as decor in my bar/ entertaining area. It's nicely crafted and finished. All of the glaze is well done, and all of the artwork is clear. It arrived in perfect condition and came well packaged. This would be a nice gift. It is a good value for what you get.

This has the traditional Japanese wave design and it looks really nice. I like the off-white creamy color with the blue wave design. This also comes with a bamboo tray to put your sake jug and cups on. Really nice and it’s subtle in its elegance. This would make a great gift for anybody who loves sake and also likes the traditional designs.
