Only a few inches long. It did the trick, for now. Hopefully, it stays mounted in the ceiling and doesn't pull out. Only mounted with drywall screws.

This item seemed very flimsy but it holds my projector very strongly and securely! I am very happy with this purchase and can't recommend this item any higher - buy, buy, buy!
