Nice size and the clip to hold in place on the cookware is a plus. Easy to use and easy to clean.

I've always wanted one of these and finally decided to splurge for one. This thermometer works great, is easy to read and easy to clean.I love that I no longer have to guess at the temperature of my oil when frying and I imagine that it would be awesome for making candy and other goodies.

Item came as described. It looked perfect! I loved how I could clip it to my pan. I was so excited to make hard candy with my new thermometer! However it did not work, it took forever to read the temperature. I burned my first batch because the thermometer was stuck at 250. However, it was past that.I than calibrated my thermometer. I boiled water and checked to see if it would register. It did but way after my digital did instantly.I then made candy and checked with my digital and the thermometer never went past 235. It was stuck it was very slow at reading compared to my other thermometer. It did not work. I did not work for reading boiling water until 3 min later and that’s too long when making candy.Just check before you rely on it!

I have had one of these for many years. I use it for candy making. I finally had to replace my first one after at least 8 years. Never replaced the battery but the digital readout faded and was unreadable.I love the alarm that tells you when you are getting close to temp. The clip fits easily on the pot and stays in place. Highly recommend this if you need accurate temperature readings.

I bought this about two weeks ago for use when frying with my Dutch oven. I make Mexican food about once a week and like to make my own chips, getting the oil to the right temperature was difficult, my instant digits thermometers were slow to read and if the oil isn’t watched constantly it will get too hot and take forever to cool back down. This thermometer has solved that, it has an alarm for when it gets to the correct temp. I now make my chips quickly and they turn out perfect! 90 seconds with the temp starting at 375’, I use 10 small tortillas at a time cut into six pieces. After the batch is done I wait a few minutes and the alarm will let me know it’s time for the next batch (add fresh ground sea salt for amazing flavor). There are a few drawbacks though- the thermometer is not backlit and the numbers are quite small making it difficult to read.Overall I’m happy though and would recommend. If something changes I will update my review.

Not sure if it is worth the price, but it works perfectly well. So much better than the digital thermometer that I used to use.

I've used this thermometer only twice so far and it does the job. The dial type of candy thermometers that I used before require several inches of syrup depth in order for the thermometer to get a reading; their thermosensors were actually a couple inches above the tip of the probe. Since many candy recipes have only a few cups of sugar syrup being cooked, you'll need a good thermometer with the sensor at the tip.I checked the accuracy of the CDN candy thermometer with boiling water and it was accurate to within one or two degrees. Unlike other reviewers, I had no problem reading the numbers on the thermometer while it was hooked on the pot; there are settings for it to tilt back and forth.I agree with the other reviewers that you'll need a pot without a lip for the thermometer to stay put on the side. A straight sided pot is also better. I bought such a stainless steel 2 quart pot from Walmart for $30 and its perfect for most of those candy recipes.I read the complaint from other reviews about the lack of an off button. But fudge recipes require at least an hour to an hour and a half for the cool down to 110 degrees; this thermometer is meant to stay on in the pot to monitor this. It doesn't bother me that there is no alarm for the cool down. It will turn off automatically when the temperature stays below 104 degrees for one hour.I also like that you could set ANY target temperature and it would alert three degrees below; great for deep frying. It could also do a good job as a meat thermometer; the sensor at the tip makes it easier to place the probe right where you need it at the exact center of the food unlike other meat thermometers where the sensor is somewhere above the tip and you could get a false reading that the food is done. The only negative I see would be to find the replacement of the tiny batteries.

This candy thermometer is perfect for its intended purpose. I have read the many complaints about the clip, but don't quite understand why that is enough of an issue to downgrade this fine thermometer. I have always made a lot of candy and prepared various sugar solutions for French pastry and candy cooking. I never, ever used the clip on any of those thermometers. If you leave the thermometer clipped to the edge of the pan, you will never get a really accurate reading for delicate sugar preparations. The temperature on the side of the pan is usually cooler than in the center and the clip prevents you from throughly stirring and scraping the bottom and side of the pan. Just stir the pan really well, submerge the tip of the thermometer in the mixture, making very sure to NOT touch the bottom of the pan(this will cause a false reading, as the bottom of the pan next to the burner will be much hotter than the mixture as a whole), and Voila!, you will have a very precise temp. reading, every time. The thermometer is easy to use and is long enough that your fingers will not be burned by the hot steam while you are submerging the therm. in the hot mixture for a reading.I highly recommend this thermometer to anyone, it measures very accurately and allows for perfect candy and sugar solutions during each use. The only thing that would cause this Therm. to malfunction would be human error (see above review). And no, I do not work for or have any connections to the manufacturer. I just really like this piece of equipment.
