`Cause and Effect' is Keane's 5th studio album. Their 4 previous albums have all entered the UK charts at number 1 and accumulated sales of over 13m worldwide and 2.6 billion streams. The birth of this new album came as something of a surprise even to the band. Singer Tom Chaplin had released two successful solo albums but missed his old sparring partner Tim Rice-Oxley. Written by Keane and produced by David Kosten and the band themselves, the album features 11 new songs recorded in London.

CD is great of course. Megahits mailed it very quickly and packaging was impeccable. I would feel very comfortable dealing with them. KAS

Loved it. If you ever have a chance to see them live, definitely go. Tom Chaplin is great.

I rank this their second best album. They have returned to their roots. It sounds so good. Some of the later songs are quite as good, but overall this album is spectacular!

This fantastic album is full of dualities. It is heartwrenching and also soothing. It is delicate but also explosive. It sounds, to a Keane fan, familiar, like a welcome from an old friend, and yet it is like nothing they have ever put out. Tim Rice-Oxley's once-in-a-generation storytelling skills are heightened by a compelling narrative that feels both deeply personal to his own life, but at the same time manages to be universal and relatable to anyone. This is a feat that I believe is much harder to pull out that it seems, and is not always appreciated enough. For example, another artist that does this a lot is Taylor Swift, and I don't think she gets enough credit for that. The rest of the band is also superb, better than ever. Tom Chaplin's voice is beautifully measured for each song's tone and mood. It is powerful, ethereal at times, and unmistakably his. Drums are AMAZING, and the rest of the instrumentation is thought out and heartfelt. Some highlights, for me, include the unexpectedly eerie intro "You're Not Home"; the disarming, core-aligning "Strange Room"; the energising and wise beyond its years "Phases"; and my personal favourite: "I Need Your Love". That song is absolutely devastating, it just feels enormous and so powerful in its desperation. These 11 songs are so incredibly self-aware and vulnerable, they are brutally honest but also kind and centred. I could experience the ups and downs, and the catharsis along with the band. In sum, Cause & Effect is a triumph, and I just really, really hope Keane does decide to keep exploring music together. They have certainly proved there's still a lot to see.

In conclusione Amazon impeccabile.

Keane have made so much great music, and my family has been so glad that after a considerable break they have returned to produce such a wonderful new album.

I have been a Keane fan since 2004 when I first Hopes and Fears at 14 years old. I have enjoyed everything the band has put out. I always had a feeling that when the band took a hiatus that they would eventually come back when the they were ready. I am extremely happy that they are back. This album doesn't disappoint it has all the ingredients of Keane's first four albums combined with some new sounds and the result is a great album from start to finish. Some of my favorites songs areThe Way I Feel: To me It feels like a new wave punk tune that wouldn't be out of place on Perfect Symmetry.Stupid Things: Is a cool track starts off slow but builds up to a danceable new wave groove.Phases: A great track a highlight of the album for me this sounds like it could have been on Under The Iron Sea.Thread: A raw emotional ballad another highlight for me.job well done Keane

I'm glad Keane released a new album, but what is amazing is how they managed to keep their signature sound and yet sound fresh and vital at the same time. The songs I love the most right now are "The Way I Feel", "Put the Radio On", "Phases", and the aching "Thread", but ask me next week and I'm likely to give you completely different answers. One of the things I have always loved about Keane is their ability to create songs that fit different moods and different times of your life. If you enjoyed their earlier work, you will definitely love this album.

Back in 2004 when Keane arrived with their debut album, they were what I considered to be New Wave revivalists. They weren't alone, there were several new British/Scottish/Irish bands picking up the torch of the long lost sound of my childhood. I was happy to have that sound back, and in a way, it was the 'third British invasion' behind the 1976-1984 second invasion and the 1964-1969 first invasion. The band didn't stick to the same old sound. Each new album they released offered something different. Then, in 2012, they went on hiatus and lead singer Tom Chaplin dropped his first solo album in 2016 followed by a holiday album. Now, the band is back after seven years with a mature, thoughtful album. They don't reinvent the musical wheel this time--no real experimentation this time around, but the words and melodies stick and that's what this album is about, really. Many songs deal with the complexities of maintaining a relationship with someone else. This is an album that I felt grew on me the more I listened to it. At first, I wasn't sure I was going to like this album, but it revealed itself to me layer by layer.Naturally, I bought the deluxe version for the extra tracks, which by the way, "New Golden Age" and "Difficult Year" should have been included on the original album they're that good. The one track that took me a while to get into was "Put the Radio On". The first two minutes are rather discordant, but the rest of the song is worth it.The stand out tracks to me are easily "Love Too Much", "The Way I Feel", "Stupid Things", "Phases", "I'm Not Leaving", "Thread", "New Golden Age" and "Difficult Year". I really like "The Way I Feel"--that should be a top 10 hit.The band sounds good here, so why four stars and not five? Well, I don't feel that any of their albums are classics. In order for that to occur, the band would have to really push the musical boundaries of what they are capable of. There would have to be experimentation, diversity of sound from song to song, and a unifying concept to hold it all together. They have made good albums, and they're pretty good about quality control. In some ways I feel that a producer that would push the band in different ways would make things more interesting. I like what they do, don't get me wrong, but I also feel they could do more. Like an A student that settles for B grades, yet you know they are capable of more if they apply themselves to the task at hand. Here's how "Cause and Effect" compares to Keane's other albums:2004 Hopes and Fears: Four Stars2006 Under the Iron Sea: Four Stars2008 Perfect Symmetry: Four Stars2010 Night Train [ep]: Three Stars2012 Strangeland: Three and a Half Stars2019 Cause and Effect: Four Stars
