This works well, as far as hooking onto the brake and measuring the depth of the brake pads. However, the actual measurement markings (as mentioned in many posts) are irrelevant because they are based on measuring from the outside of the backing plate (which comes in a variety of sizes) and not from the base of the brake pad, which is what we are actually wanting to measure.So....I use this device to take the measurement between the rotor and the backing plate, effectively giving me the depth of the brake pad. I then use my vernier calipers to give me the actual measurement.

Very simple. Awesome resource and a great selling tool to physically show customers. Donโt know why i didnโt find this sooner.

I love this tool cause it allows me to measure the brake pads without taking the wheels off. You get and accurate reading without the guessing.

This tool measures the distance between the brake pad backplate and the brake disc, assuming the backplate is a standard 6mm thick.Instructions aren't provided, unfortunately. It took me a minute of staring at the tool and my brake setup before figuring out how to take a measurement.Once you've got it figured out, the tool is pretty easy to use - just place it's 'L' shaped piece on the edge of the brake pad backplate, and depress the plunger until it contacts the disc. Measurements are clear and easy to read - the most difficult part is finding a spot on the brake pad where you can take a measurement, as often the wheel and/or caliper is in the way.

Brakes are always a hassle! Usually you need them rather quickly when you realize you need them! LOL! This tool makes it easy to do a quick brake pad inspection if you visual access to them thru your wheels; which means you do not have to jack the car up and take the wheel off.Simply push the rod all the way out and place it on the rotor, then slide it back in until the little "L Shaped" portion of the tool touches the back of the brake pad (the side closest to you - the side that does NOT touch the rotor). The higher the number, the more pad life you have left. When it starts getting near 3mm it is time to change the pads.**This tool is based upon pads with a standard 6mm backplate **All-in-all, a great tool for ANYONE who works on cars at ANY level!
