I'm pretty tech savvy, but have avoided getting a wireless printer until now because of all the nightmare stories I've heard about setting them up, keeping them connected to the network, and getting all the functions to work over the wireless connection. I'm glad I waited for this printer, because it is everything I'd wanted in a wireless all-in-one.Setup: This goes easily, but not quickly. If you have Windows 7 and can use the wireless setup functions, it makes this setup go a lot faster and easier, but you will still spend a half hour or so getting the software installed. If you don't have Windows 7, expect to spend about an hour on setup, but thankfully the instruction manual is very detailed on this, so as long as you follow the steps, you can't go wrong.Functionality: Standard all-in-one functions: print, copy, scan, fax. None of these seem any more or less than you'd find in any other similar printer.Print quality: Very good quality on documents and pictures. The documents are almost (but not quite, of course) on par with my laser printer (Konica Minolta 1650EN) but the picture/photo output is much better.Wireless: I don't see any issues with the wireless. I tried a few places around the house and anywhere a laptop could find enough of a signal to connect to the router, the printer was able to connect and function. Basically, if the blue light on the front is on, you'll be able to access all the functionality of the printer through the wireless connection.Size and Weight: The printer is a bit larger than other all-in-ones because it has the paper feed in the back. I don't think this is an issue since you can set the printer anywhere you'd like because of the wireless connection. The weight is fine for any shelf you'd trust a couple books on, so again, not an issue.Time to print: From standby mode, it takes 15 seconds from the time you hit the "Print" button in Word until the first page of the document is out of the printer. There is nothing here to complain about; that's an excellent time and is much faster than a lot of other printers in the same price range.Scanning/OCR: I did a screenshot of the scanned page and OCR output of a double-column page from a tool safety manual. Granted it isn't perfect, sometimes it sees an I as a T, sometimes it misses spaces...but recognizing column breaks as something other than just plain whitespace is pretty good, in my opinion. Look at the image at the top of the page and decide for yourself if this is good enough for your home or office.WOW factor: Since a printer is a printer is a printer...I look for a "that's cool" thing or a "you're kidding me" thing to separate one from the other. One thing I noticed about this printer that convinced me that they'd really put some thought into it is that if you don't open the outfeed door before you start printing...it opens automatically! Okay, that's a great little, "why didn't everyone else think of that" feature that makes me feel very confident that they've put at least as much thought into all the other aspects of the printer.Summary: I'm very happy with the printer. It seems to be very well made, the print is clear, the time to first page out isn't any longer than other inkjets and shorter than most. Perhaps the biggest thing that impressed me was the detail of the installation manual; it doesn't sound like it was translated from Russian or some other language and it has step-by-step, detailed instructions that will get the printer set up and running with a minimum of frustration.Of course, I'll update as needed, but I feel this is a good printer that you should strongly consider for the home or even small office.

I just updated my Canon MX 310, now three years old, to this MX 340. They are very similar, but the new one is WiFi capable. And since it costs not much more than the price of a pair of black and color cartridges, I figured why not? I scoured the reviews already posted here, and they were so helpful in helping me make my decision to go ahead. I did consider some of the Canon's MD and MP series printers but as I need to send a fax once in awhile, I decided to stick with this one.You must know that Canon's excellent phone tech support is not available on the weekends! it is only open 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. There is email tech support on the weekends, but it can be hard to ask complicated questions.I had sent an email to Canon's tech support last weekend asking some very specific questions. My WiFi network is both hidden (the SSID is invisible to anyone) and it is locked to devices whose MAC (media access control) addresses (they look like this - 1c:eb:4D:9y:v5:3s) are registered on my network. These are some additional security measures I feel everyone should use. I wanted to know how to get the printer's MAC address and I wanted to be sure that after unhiding my network during set up, the printer would still be able to connect to it after I made the network hidden again. After several emails back and forth I was told how to find the MAC address (you can print it out during set up) but the person insisted that the printer would not be able to find the network once I hid it again. That made no sense to me since all my other WiFi devices (iPhones, MacBook Pro, Roku box, etc.) can find it. But never mind, I went ahead and ordered the printer from Amazon anyway. The manual is horribly written. It blends Mac and Windows Vista and 7 instructions and has you skip around the booklet depending on your OS. Separate booklets for each OS would be much better. Regardless I went ahead to give it a go. I was able to print out the information sheet including the MAC address, and when the printer was temporarily linked via supplied USB cable (which Canon insists on calling something like a "wireless network cable"-an oxymoron if I ever heard one) it found the temporary visible network and I was able to enter in the network password. But when I tried to complete the setup all I got was a window requesting me to set up the printer's IP address. What was that for? I was flummoxed, so decided I had better call Canon's tech support.I was very capably assisted by someone (in the USA, no less), who helped me finish the process. Apparently I needed to enter in the password using the keypad on the printer itself, something that is completely missing from the manual! In addition, when I asked the fellow about the nonsense that the network must remain visible forever, all he could say was "horsefeathers". He asked if I had the name of the person who told me that, I presume so that he could make sure she could hear the correct answer.I was impressed with his help. But I caution all of you to consider when you decide to setup your printer to keep in mind that voice help will not be available to you on the weekends (or even in later evening on the West Coast). You might be stuck until Monday morning, and I was told that Mondays are very busy days at their voice tech support.I've only had it running for a few days, but I'm very happy with it. The fax, scanning, copying, and printing are quite satisfactory, and for a $69 machine. What more can one ask for?
