That was the price it was being offered by several dealers before the rebate. What gives. Please no silly excuses, if it could be sold at that price without the rebate, then it should now be selling for under 2500

I been using this printer for printing photos to do face mount on acrylic(proxy glass). The picture quality is unbeatable. The color appears so vivid. It's great for photo printing especially but it's not for printing on some other media like canvas or similar tho it does the job and print quality looks great. If you are getting this printer and print a lot be ready to put half the price of the printer to replace the original ink cartridges.

Pros:-Reliable-Great print quality.-Uses a reasonable amount of ink as long as you use the printer frequently and it doesn't have to clean the print head often.-Able to print massive prints and can print borderless on roll paper.-Ink cost drop for drop is MUCH less than smaller printers, even though the cartridges themselves are expensive.-No need to change out photo black and matte black ink cartridges like some Epson printers.-Printer automatically detects how big whatever sheet of paper you load into it is.-Can load and choose between two different rolls of paper with no changing rolls if you buy the optional RU-41 roll unit, but this probably isn't worth the added $900 unless you're doing a LOT of printing.-Ink cartridges can be replaced right in the middle of printing. As long as you have spares on hand, you will never run out of ink the middle of printing a large print. (Even though the ink cartridges are very large and don't require replacement often.)Cons:-HEAVY, difficult to move, takes up a lot of space. (However once it's set up on its stand the built in casters roll very easily on a hard surface. So moving it across the floor to another place in the same room is easy.) But this isn't as much of a fault of the printer as it is just the reality of owning and living with a large format printer.-Loading pre-cut sheets into this printer is harder than it should be. The printer seems like it was made to print from roll paper, and while you can load cut sheets and print to them, it feels like this feature was added as an afterthought. It does print just as well to sheets as it does to rolls if you take the time to load the sheets though, and it does automatically detect the sheet size once it's loaded, so that's nice.-Maintenance cartridges are obscenely expensive for what they are. (See workaround for this in the review below.)-I don't think there is any way to print borderless on cut sheet paper, even though the smaller, cheaper PRO-1000 allows this.-Printing large images over WiFi is very slow. The printer seems to save the image internal to the printer before printing it. Despite turning off the setting that makes it do this, it still seems to. When printing very large files, I recommend printing with a USB connection to the printer.I bought one of these printers used (about a year old). I had the Canon PRO-1000 for a couple years and loved it, but wanted the freedom to go larger than the maximum 17" print width on the PRO-1000.After owning this printer almost a year now, it seems to have the same great reliability and consistency as the PRO-1000, but with a couple added features and menu options that make it geared towards more commercial use. There are a few menu options that show the total use on the printer that the PRO-1000 didn't have. The learning curve is a little steeper to use this printer once you get into printing from roll paper. It's still not too complicated though. When using this printer, ESPECIALLY when printing to roll paper, I highly recommend using Canon's free Print Studio Pro software. I have not been able to print to roll paper on this printer directly from Photoshop and have the print come out how I intended it. But Print Studio Pro seems to work with this printer much better, and has a very nice feature for visualizing how your print will come off of the roll of paper. Printing directly out of Photoshop onto sheet paper also seems to cause the print to be off-center.An important thing to note though is that while it will print on cut sheets of paper down to as small as 8"x8", the process to load sheets of paper into this printer is not very user friendly. You can only load one sheet at a time, and the process takes anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. This printer is really made for printing from roll paper, with the added ability to load sheets into it if you have to. There is also no physical guide for loading sheets into the printer. You have to line them up along an orange line marked on the bed of the printer. While the printer can detect if you load sheets skewed, there is still a little room for error. So, your prints on sheet paper are ultimately only as straight as you load the paper. But while it's a little cumbersome to load sheets into the printer, I think it's an acceptable trade off for this printers ability to produce gigantic, beautiful prints when I want it to. But if you solely want to print on pre-cut sheets of paper, and you don't need to print larger than a 17" width, stick with the PRO-1000 and save yourself a ton of money, space, and hassle.Like the PRO-1000, the best advice I have for anyone who buys this printer is to make sure you use it regularly. These Canon printers are very particular about keeping the print head clean and unclogged. Not printing for long periods of time tends to clog the print head. If you do this, the printer will not be afraid to waste tons of your precious ink in order to make sure the print head is clean. However there is a simple solution to this. Just make sure you print something on this printer frequently. At least every few days is best, but at least once a week. If you let the printer set unused for longer than this, the printer tends to go through extensive cleaning before it prints, which wastes a lot of ink. It can even be as simple as a tiny dot of ink on a sheet of paper. Just make sure you print SOMETHING every week or so.While we're on the subject of wasting ink, let's talk about the "maintenance cartridge." This is the large cartridge that goes into the front of the printer and catches the ink that the printer wastes whenever it cleans the print head. These cartridges tend to last a long time before they're full of ink and need to be replaced, especially if you're printing frequently. But a new cartridge is almost $100. However you do NOT need to buy these from Canon. There is a much cheaper, easier way...On ebay, you can buy a resetting tool for the chip in the maintenance cartridge. Be sure you get one specifically for the PRO-4000. This tool will re-program the chip in the maintenance cartridge to fool the printer into thinking it is a brand new cartridge. This cartridge is also very easy to take apart and put back together without damaging it. So when your cartridge does become "full," simply remove it from the printer, open it, remove the absorbent felt inside that is now saturated with waste ink, and re-pack the cartridge with absorbent material. (Some people use folded up paper towels, I use maxi pads since they're so absorbent.) Then, use the chip resetting tool on the cartridge, reinstall it into the printer, and voila!... The printer thinks the cartridge is new, and it's ready to catch more waste ink. Just remove the cartridge and look at it every once in a while to ensure that whatever you put in to absorb the ink is not over-saturated with ink, as you don't want a bunch of liquid ink sloshing around in this cartridge. It would probably remain inside this cartridge even if it's not absorbed, but it's just not a good thing to have a bunch of liquid waste ink sloshing around in your printer.Overall a very good option for making large prints. A little bit of a hassle if you do mostly printing on pre-cut sheets of paper, but not so much that it outweighs all the positives of this printer.
