This headset came on my Santa Cruz Tallboy. It only lasted a few months before it started making a racket- clicking and creaking noises. Apparently, the bottom bearing was shot and very wobbly. This was replaced with a 40 series, but a few months later the clicking returned- the top bearing went.I replaced the whole headset with a CC Hellbender- Hoping this headset drama finally ends...

Good product could have been great if it had a metal top plate. But its working fine so far.

I have an older mountain bike that still uses these older style press in headsets and this Cane Creek headset worked fine. For the money it's great and installation was as easy as any other headset install. One thing to note is that the headset cap is plastic so be careful not to over tighten the top bolt.

Someone stole my top cap to my threadset (why?), which prompted me to upgrade to the Cane Creek and I haven't regretted it. I didn't realize how low end my cheap threadset was until I installed this. Even though this is the bargain version, it is still far superior to most other cheapies on the market.

Installed this headset, installation was easy. If I had known when I ordered it the crown race and top cover were plastic I probably would have gotten the 40 series. Once installed the headset kept coming loose (I installed a new fork along with the headset and was probably running too many spacers while trying to dial in the height of my bars). Only came loose on two 5 mile trail rides and the crown race was destroyed- which in turn destroyed the bottom bearings. I believe if the race had been metal it may have lived. Thankfully the 10 series and the 40 series are the same so I got a metal race, new bearings. On putting back together I find the top cover is also cracked so had to order a metal one of those as well. Now I basically have a 40 series headset that cost a lot more than if I had just bought the all metal version in the first place. Still three stars because most of the issues were caused by me running too long of a steer tube (I have multiple bikes and was trying to keep the steer tube long enough to swap to a different bike in the future). I think if the parts has been metal they may have survived -the top cover for sure would have.

I read a review where someone gave this headset poor reviews because the parts looked "cheap" or something like that. The only parts that look cheap, are the parts that are plastic. But they do what they are supposed to and save weight. And the fact of the matter is that this is a "cheap" headset that performs the way it is supposed to. You get a bang for your buck and to expect more than that is silly. Installation was very simple and I love the sealed bearings. The cups are very stealth, especially compared to this ugly FSA headset that I installed a week earlier, but it had play in it, so it went in the trash. This Cane Creek is great headset for the money! I do cross country mountain biking.

Am impressed, my local bike shop told me to use a FSA headset, but all Youtube video pro's were all installing Cane Creeks on their bikes, so I went with the Cane Creek 10 series and am not disappointed. Was easy to install with the proper tool and I like the prelubed sealed bearing cartridge instead of the open ball bearings of my old headset. Also like the design of the top cover, was able to remove a 5mm headset spacer and just use 2 15mm spacers. The crown race is plastic and not a complete solid 360, has a slight little groove in it like the steer tube spacer does, just makes it easier to take off the forks if needed to.Have used this headset all summer long and no problems with it. Am in the process of building an All Mountain Bike and will be purchasing another. The cups, top cover and stem cap are all alloy. All internal parts are cross compatible with the 40 & 110 series. Wouldn't really call it cheap. You know today Cane Creek still does make an S2 S3 S6 S8. Until that day comes when I think this headset somehow failed/broke on me after 8 months of constant daily use then I will upgrade. Until then I will keep buying it.The plastic crown race is still holding up shows no signs of wear or damage. The 10 will come with an alloy or plastic stem/star nut cap. The first one I purchased had an alloy stem cap my second had a plastic so I changed my rating to a 4 instead of a 5. Wasn't to concerned about it just used a different cap from an Cane Creek ZS S3 I had laying around which was alloy.
