As thin as this mat is, I would never use it as my sole sleeping mat while camping. I used it in conjunction with my regular sleeping pad, putting this on the bottom to keep me warmer and to shield me from the cold ground.

Not sure what I expected but this is very thin. Not sure I would call it a may but more like an insulating blanket. It is the thickness of the silver roll of insulation you buy for pipes or hard to reach areas. That likely would be cheaper. I have no doubt it helps increase warmth but there is no increase in comfort…

This is an excellent way to insulate yourself from the cold ground at night when camping out. Sleeping on the ground (even when you are in a sleeping bag and inside your tent) is a fast way to be drained of body heat If you aren't going to be laying on an air mattress, at least get one of these sleeping pads, it will cushion you from the ground, and help keep you warm as you sleep.

I wanted something to replace my bulky foam pad that I carry backpacking to go under my nice sleeping pad. This is super light and provides protection and insulation. I have an inflatable pad that is pretty well insulated and I like having something under it to protect it from punctures. I want it to last as long as possible. I didn't need anything thick, but an additional insulation layer is also great for the cooler temps. This is super light and packs up nicely. If you are looking for an alternative to the extra foam pad you carry for under your sleeping pad, I recommend this thin lightweight foil mat.
