My hot water heater was overheating and tripping out. I ordered the exact same replacement to ensure proper fit and it was the answer to my problem. I replaced both top and bottom thermostats at the same time. One may have been good but for the price it was the thing to do.

My Reliant water heater quit working and after inspecting it I found out the lower thermostat has burn out. This thermostat looked exactly like the burnt one and according to the description it was compatible with this model. I was pleasantly surprised it also came with the little white plastic cover to separate the cap fiber insulation from the thermostat. Installing it was very easy, the little metal tabs on it clicked in the slots and locked it firmly in place. I reset the upper thermostat, which had tripped when the other one burned, and now everything is working again.

By looking at the picture, I used it for A.O Smith hot water tank. It attached to the tank by the side hooks and holding very well as the original thermostat . Worked perfectly … Happy camper .

When my water heater is going crazy (either too hot or too cool), and it is not dripping (leaking), this simple fix is quick, cheap, easy, and effective. I keep a spare on hand, since appliances tend to fail on weekends or just before house guests arrive.

Works good, old one after 6.5 years would stay on and not turn off at set temp.

Was having trouble maintaining hot water in a 50 gallon tank. Replaced both the upper and lower elements due to the lower element being shorted out due to corrosion. A couple of weeks later, was running out of hot water again. Checked both thermostats and the lower one was bad. Decided to go ahead and replace both thermostats. Installation was a snap and both thermostats are better than the "universal fit" sold at the big box stores. In short, plenty of hot water and noticed a significant drop in utility bill.
