Lowest priced sight I would rely on for any serious purpose.

I have been playing around with prism sights lately. Never really cared for anything other than a good set of iron sights until now. The biggest reason that I have avoided the new fancy scopes is that I hate batteries. I have visions of being out in the wilderness in some post apocalyptic, real version of that fallout game, and all I have for sights are some dead batteries and a clear tube with no reticle. Prism sights are almost indestructible and with an etched reticle, you don't need batteries to use it. In the last couple of years, I have had to start wearing reading glasses. Not only has this been a real shot to my mortality, but it has gotten me interested in optics. This has been both depressing due to having to come to terms with my age and kind of fun as it is opening up a whole new branch of my firearm hobby.I am lucky enough not to need it but if you have an astigmatism and regular red dot sights look blurry, this is the kind of sight that you need to use.The first one that I got was a Burris AR-1X combo with a 3X magnifier. Love it. It looks just like a set up you see on TV that all the pseudo-seal teams have. Takes me back to watching Rambo for the first time. The two biggest selling points for me were 1) It takes AA batteries and it advertises 5000 hours between replacements. I use rechargeable AA batteries in everything around the house already. My video remotes, computer mouse, flashlights, etc. 2) It has a really cool bullet drop reticle that is designed for the .308 and 5.56 cartridges. I would think that using a magnifier with this type of reticle is an obvious combination. Not all prism sights will work with a magnifier. This one does.Bottom line: Clear glass, good reticle, and an overall good value. One of the best sights of this type in my opinion.

Glass is clear. Reticle was perfectly straight. It illuminates very well in both red and green. Even in full sunlight in Texas. Quick to zero, shot about 2” left and 1” low on mounting. I do have an astigmatism in my dominant eye, I had no problems with any starring or multiple images, it was just a nice, clear reticle both black and illuminated. The sight is powered by a AA battery, which Burris was nice enough to include a very good quality battery with the sight.Cons: the reticle is a little busy, especially since everything is so small that I can’t really read it. I think a simpler reticle would have been better. With that said, the reticle isn’t terrible. Great to close to medium range quick target alignment. I shot it at 100 yards also, I was able to group very well with it also.Verdict: I like this sight.

To start with, your vision must be really good - either naturally or with corrective lenses - to get the most from this optic. There are a lot of things being displayed in the reticle. If after focusing as best you can, you should be able to easily read the numbers being displayed in the reticle, and the subtense lines should be sharp and clear. If not, you need to make a trip to the eye doctor before you start giving this optic bad reviews. This optic is more than just one dot. The subtense lines can look cluttered at first, but they do work - if your vision is good. The Burris website gives a chart for 5.56 and .308 bullets to give you point of impact at given distances using the dot and subtense lines. I've used this optic to shoot steel out to 500 yards on an AR10 build. It does work good for this. But, no matter what color I set the reticle or brightness, it's easy to lose sight of the subtense lines at distance against the east Texas thicket forest. For this reason, I wouldn't do any long-shot hunting with it where the background is very multi-colored at distance. I've found it's important to keep the eye relief as close to four inches as you can get it. This is definitely a "both eyes open" optic, but as I stress, you have to have good vision. I get the impression that it was designed to be a red dot optic that you can use to shoot distance. It's not the best for up-close targets because of the "busy" reticle, and it's not as good as a good rifle scope for distance, but it does a decent job at both. For me, it does exactly what I bought it for.

Build quality seems pretty good but there are some serious shortcomings. Each time the unit is turned on you have to reset the brightness levels to your liking. Every other sight I've used saves the previous brightness settings. The reticle is small and cluttered. You can barely ready the tiny numbers with the unit off in full daylight and if you turn the unit on forget about reading anything at all. Lastly, the mounting. I put this on a springfield saint with a standard picatinny rail. For some od reason the single mounting bolt becomes crooked when I slightly tighten it and and gets worse when I securely tighten it. I noticed this when looking at the sight and saw the mounting bolt canted downward instead of pointing straight out. I ended up teturning this sight.

Great optic for the price. I was the intensity level would remain the same when you turn it off.

I also have a burris 3x, both are amazing. Eye relief is great on this and has focusing for your preferred placement. A bit heavy but worth every penny.

Awesome 1x sight. I mounted this sight to my AR. This sight sits perfectly level on my rifle as I in fact tested this using bubble levels for scope mounting. The gun was level and the sight was level with it. When you look through it ... Perfectly level! The illumination is great too. Good glass and seems to be built like a tank. I like the 1/2 MOA adjustment. Holds a zero wonderfully even after removing it and then re-mounting. I'm thinking about getting the 3x magnifier for it next. We will see...
