The corn grew well needed some initial loving and caring, but came out fine. It grew high enough so I didn’t have to look

This sweet corn was delicious. The best corn seeds out there to plant

Three years ago, I planted peaches and cream variety, and it was disappointing. While that variety had good germination and production, the corn was just plain bland and not even as good as frozen corn cobs from the store. I was so disappointed in that crop that I planted no corn at all for two years after.Well, I did a little more research and found out that I should be looking for SH2 corn if I really wanted sweetness. With that knowledge, I decided to try again this year. This was the first SH2 variety that came up in my search and it was a home run. I will not grow another variety of sweet corn ever again. I only planted ten stalks in an area that only gets afternoon sun, just as an experiment. I got nearly 100% germination and it looks like we are getting at least one cob from each stalk. The stalks only get about six feet tall, so it is a nice space-saving variety. The corn itself has smallish crisp kernels that are absolutely the sweetest and most flavorful corn I have ever tried.Since it was so successful, I decided to plant another block of them out in a raised bed with full sun all day long. They are coming up nicely and thanks to the short season for this corn, it looks like we are going to get a late season crop from that planting. Next year, I am going to dedicate an entire 4x8 raised bed to this corn and succession plant them so we can have this corn all summer long.If you are on the fence about trying this variety, just go for it. I'm convinced there is no better sweet corn. For reference, I am in Northern California, zone 9B.

It’s really hard to grow corn where I live when I planted these I did not have high hopes but I pulled my first crop today with many more coming up behind it and I couldn’t be happier with these seeds I will use the same ones next year and triple the amount I plant

MAJOR CHANGE TO BAD REVIEW:Early on, not a single plant from this package sprouted. I planted corn in three patches of ground, all about the same for soil, sun and water. My first patch was planted with seeds from Ferry Morse, via Lowes. Seedlings emerged in that patch of ground with about 75% germination -- good enough. These seeds from Burpee via Amazon failed entirely in both the other two patches. I then tried an overnight soaking before I sowed two more. That worked in one place but only one and that one showed less that 50 %. There was NO MENTION OF OVERNIFGHT SOAKING on the packaging, not a hint, suggestion or instruction. I got the =soaking idea from an Internet post.Of note: The five-star ratings are all from prior years -- none for 2024. Balance that with limp ratings from 2024 (so far) which cite poor germination or none at all. If that last patch shows germination, I'll come back and upgrade more of what I wrote.

I worked very hard on my garden this year, but these seeds did not produce. I followed the directions and everything. So if my other seeds did great, with the exception of the strawberry seeds I purchased from another seller here on Amazon. Very disappointed.

Despite two cats trying to dig up the ground, an invasive neighbor chicken trying to eat all the plants, and lots of dry hot weather, 75% of the seed has been able to grow into stalks. Due to the interferences of animals and weather, I am uncertain if the remaining crop is in close enough proximity to eachother to effectively pollinate, so I do not know of the taste. Despite the unlucky growing conditions, the plants are vigorous and green and some are producing flower buds already. They did not all germinate at the same rate due to water issues, so are in all stages of growth. the ones with flowers are only 3 ft tall. I do not know if that is normal for this crop or a result of the rocky dry ground. I will update if I am able to harvest any actual corn.

I’m finally growing corn!!!! To get an early start on the growing season, a total of 18 seeds were started indoors in 4”x4” pots set on a heating pad and under grow lights for 10 hours daily. 16 seedlings were later transferred to grow bags when 2 - 3” tall. -Yep, I had two (2) duds. Be warned, they may be slow to germinate, but as growing conditions become more favorable they will grow fast and are heavy feeders. They were transferred to grow bags on February 19th and moved to a kiddie pool (one of those cheap plastic 45” pools) on March 27. The reason for the kiddie pool is for the plants to maintain a consistent moisture level & to keep the corn ant free. Between the kiddie pool and warmer weather, the plants have really taken off.February 11 - Seeds plantedFebruary 19 - Transferred to grow bagsMarch 27 - Moved to kiddie poolApril 27 - First tasselsMay 3 – First earsJune 9 - First 'harvest'I now have a total of 16 plants with over 19 ears of corn in various growth stages with the smallest at 3” and largest at 10. They were planted using different size grow bags as an experiment. Did you know that each kernel of corn develops only when pollen lands on that silk strand? Learn something every day. I decided to help things along and I hand pollinated a few. -Some of the stalks have put on second ears! On March 24th, two additional seeds were started in the green 3-gallon bag (left side in image) that now has two healthy plants growing. Overall, germination is 99.9%. My seed pack contained 52 seeds with an expiration date of 06/2025 and I still have half a pack of seeds left to plant next year. This year was a test to see if I could, and what interferences I would be dealing with. I was pretty much warned that growing corn in this particular area of 9a would be extremely challenging due to intense sun, heat, high humidity, morning fog, fungus, aphids, bugs & insects, 4-legged scavengers, and maybe even 2-legged ones. Despite all this, the plants are green, healthy looking and are growing vigorously. The proximity to each other may not be my best set up for pollination, but next year will be better. Overall, the seeds have a good germination rate for the price and the harvested ears were sweet. 5 stars!
