Spiral Flute Tap

This thing was a lifesaver recently. Found that the shop that had previously changed my oil torqued the hell out of the oil plug and ruined some threads. Used plenty of cutting oil and went slowly, and it cleared it all up. Kept me from having to do any number of solutions that would've been so much more work and probably more expensive. I used the IRWIN tap handle that Amazon is probably suggesting and it fit perfectly.

Tapped 50 holes in structural steel using some good tapping oil and a mag drill, didn't have a single issue getting every bolt in. Great bit for the price.

I used this tap to chase the damaged threads in my bmw oil pan (n-52 motor). Tap is about .003 oversize.Then I installed an oil plug .020 (.5mm) oversized.The standard plugs from bmw are already .012 under the 12mm.The oversized plug is also ..012 undersize.So after I chased the thread and install the oversized plug - I only had to take out about .005.The over sized plug doesn’t have .010 clearance and feels better than the stock plug ever did.Get it in straight or you will be hating life.

Whether or not this is a high quality tap, it works for my application, which is cleaning up the threads on Subaru lug nuts. Some garage grunts get very zealous with impact guns and frequently strip out the finer threads on Subaru wheel studs and lug nuts, leading to broken studs. Whenever I remove a wheel, from now on I am cleaning up the threads on the studs and the lug nuts. It's much easier than replacing wheel studs.

Used this to chase the threads on a car brake caliper. New bolts would not thread into the existing caliper. Chased them with this Tap and they screwed in easily. No noticeable wobble at all. Thread pitch is accurate...
