Be aware that the stage 1 is for polishing your wine. It's so micro that it tends to leak out around the filters losing some wine that can be poured back in to the carboy. However, it's so clear with no haze at all and ready to bottle.

The Number 3 filters greatly clarified my white wine, and took out the last of the impurities. Because the fivers were so fine and packed, I hate to use clamps to further tighten the filters in the pump, but that was no big effort. I am definitely using the #1, #2 and #3 filters next grape harvesting and wine making season. I am very happy with the product now that I know how to use the system and simply follow directions.

I use the #3 filter for the final filtration of my homemade wine just before I bottle it. However, I never start with the #3. I usually start with the #2 filter and immediately follow up with the #3. I've not had to use the #1 filter because I rack my wine multiple times over a couple of months and it is typically pretty free from any visible settlings before I begin the filtering process. The real testament to the effectiveness of the #3 filter becomes evident months after bottling when my wine remains clear and 100% free from any settlements or contaminants. However, to achieve these results you really need to follow the directions. Soak your pads before use and then run at least a gallon of clean water through them before running your wine through them. Doing so ensures any dust in the pads is completely removed.

We found that these filters caused the pump to back up and leak. We went back and reordered #2 filters, which were fine for our taste. The information on these filters were not clear. I am not sure if we have a use for these filters.
