About this item

  • Bulka small bread banneton holds up to 500g of dough: Craving an extra large loaf of tangy sourdough? Can’t wait to make that new Italian focaccia recipe or try your hand at the perfect rye? Our sourdough proofing basket holds up to 500g of your favorite dough and ensures its shape holds strong during the final rise. Perfect for crafting pillow-soft sourdough bread without worrying about deflation!
  • Thick walls keep temperature consistent: No one likes sad, uneven bread that screams “my baker didn’t cook me right!”. Luckily for even the newest bread makers, our thick-walled bread rising basket provides all-over insulation, keeping temperatures consistent while you masterfully ferment and proof beautiful artisan bread.
  • Create gorgeous, even crusts: Longing to hear the crackle of warm, crusty bread fresh out of the oven? Create airy, golden-crusted loaves with Bulka sourdough basket that evenly absorb moisture for dramatically improved breathability and taste. Once you’ve proved your loaves with a Bulka bread proofing basket, you’ll never want to go back! This Plane round banneton leaves no impressions on the dough skin which allows you to create your favourite scoring.
  • Made from eco-friendly wood pulp: From tree to table, our brotforms harness the power and beauty of nature without harming it in the process. Sustainably sourced from local German forests, our spruce wood pulp bannetons are more eco-friendly than rattan products made from rainforest palms. Plus, you’ll love that our Bulka bread proofing bowls are 100% biodegradable and chemical-free!
  • Easy to remove and clean: Difficult cleanup? Not on our watch! With a non-stick texture and larger surface area, wet dough is less likely to get stuck in grooves. No need to spend extra time washing, either. Just dry your bread proofer in a warm, well-ventilated area (or in residual oven heat after baking) and brush off leftover flakes with a stiff brush!

  • Dough sticks when the banneton isn’t floured enough. Dust it generously with flour (gluten-free flour works best) to ensure a clean release and a perfect shape.

  • Definitely not! After each use, brush off excess flour and ensure it dries completely—moisture invites mold. Drying in the oven with residual heat at 250°F is the gold standard for keeping your banneton clean and mold-free! Never wash it with water!

  • Nope, it’s crafted from premium, food-safe wood pulp! Unlike cardboard, wood pulp is durable, breathable, and perfect for proofing dough. It helps regulate moisture for better results, giving your bread that perfect crust and shape every time.

  • Mold thrives in moisture! Always dry your banneton completely after use, ideally using the oven's residual heat, and store it in a well-ventilated spot. If mold does form, it's best to dispose of the basket to keep your baking safe and hygienic.

  • Moisture is the enemy! Always ensure your banneton is thoroughly dried after each use. The residual heat method is the best basket's friend. Then store it in a dry and well-ventilated area—this is crucial to prevent mold and keep it bake-ready!

This is the banneton I have used. I bake bread every weekend and I have tried both the long one and the round one. Worked better than my previous ones. The material does not stick to the dough naturally so you need very little flour.I love that is a solid piece and has no holes so I don’t make a mess when I sprinkle with flour. It absorbs moisture so it keeps the dough in a perfect environment. I proof in the fridge overnight and all my loafs have come out great.I wish I have gotten this earlier.

This banneton has made bread shaping so much easier. I prep the banneton by coating it in a thin layer of rice flour. I've never had any issues with my bread dough sticking. To clean, do not use water. Just brush with a dry soft bristle brush and store for the next use. Puts a really fun pattern on the bread.

High hydration dough does not stick. These spruce pulp proof baskets are great. I have always had to over flour and struggle with linen lined baskets. These are such a joy to work with. Plus I love the fact that they are chemical free and made in the EU.

I began my sourdough journey this past year and purchased two Bulka bannetons, round and oval. I have never had a problem with my high hydration dough sticking. The key is to dust the Bulka with fine white rice flour, which can be purchased inexpensively at Asian markets. No need for a liner or towel! After use and air drying, my bannetons clean easily with a stiff pastry brush. Highly recommend this well made, quality item.

I've been baking sourdough loaves and gifting them away for a couple of years and decided I needed to notch up my final outcome. Bulka bannetons kept surfacing as the rising basket with great quality, a true top shelf item for bread making and the results truly blew me away. I'm kicking myself I didn't invest in these earlier. They are a game changer. Easy to use. Clear instructions. Highly recommend.

Love the banneton bread basket but seems small for 500g of flour! Love how easy the bread comes out of basket and you don’t need to season it. Wish I had ordered a bigger one!I’m very happy that this company explain the size of the banneton basket was for 500g but only when you weigh it out after. So this is why I was thinking it was too small, so I will be purchasing the bigger one since the finished product would weigh more than 500g! Very pleasant to work with them. Love the sturdiness of the basket and how easy your bread comes out!Ordered the larger 9” proofing basket and this one is just perfect for my 500g flour. After the company explained that a finished product weigh more and that’s going to fit a basket by weight and not just grams ! Made a loaf yesterday and it came out of so nice and perfect! These proofing baskets are the greatest! For the cost they are worth every penny.

I recently used the Bulka bread banneton to make a sourdough loaf, and I’m beyond impressed with its performance. The quality of the banneton is evident from the start, with a sturdy build and a textured , surface that makes bread-making enjoyable and mess-free. Each loaf turns out beautifully lofty with a well-defined shape, adding an artisan look to my bakes. Cleanup is a breeze, and while I initially wondered about its long-term durability, it has held up wonderfully so far. It’s refreshing to support smaller companies that deliver high-quality craftsmanship—keep up the great work!”

I was expecting something more advanced than the typical Banneton bowl especially at $60.00 and made in Germany. However. It’s essentially thick cardboard material similar to a paper machete or close to thick packaging cardboard. There is no way of properly maintaining it to avoid mildew or bacteria - as some have already complained about mold. I won’t even bother trying only to get stuck with another piece of junk to the landfill again and be out $60.00. Common sense tells me this is not practical and was a very poorly thought out product by the supplier and manufacturer.I’ve tried a few of the other typical Bennton bowls here on Amazon and they all start to split, leaving slivers in my dough and early signs of mold. I think these Bennton bowls are way over stated and not worth the risk. Let the dough rise in a glass or solid wooden bowl, flip it over into a Dutch oven score it, make fancy designs and bake! No need for these other bowls.

I tend to make high hydration doughs with a decent amount of wholemeal flour so they can get pretty sticky. Wicker is fine but if I’m not super careful I can end up partly deflating the dough as I try to get it out of the banneton. This has never even been close to happening with this one - it just makes the whole process of bulk fermentation a breeze.

Not very impressed with the construction of this product. Looks like pressed paper. Photos of it on Amazon didn't clearly show how cheaply this product was constructed. But it clearly states don't wash...it would melt if immersed in water.
