About this item

  • High Quality: The stropping red compound is solid at room temperature but, the heat generated by the friction of the spinning buff, softens and liquefies the chemical, so you will not get dirty before/after using it.

I find that the item you are polishing needs to be quite warm before this polish is start doing what it suppose to do. That means when you first start to polish an item it is cold and generally picks up scratches from the stiff wax binder. Only as you continue to polish and your piece picks up heat from the wheel does it start to clean up. Not too good for small pieces and quick touch ups.

The grit selectivity seems good. I'm not getting any gouges on finer grits from large particle contamination. For hand or rotary tool use, cutting or printing a base to hold these if you don't have one is suggested. Solid but not brittle at room temp, easy to apply without overapplying. Doesn't turn into a liquid wax spray at lower RPMs on the tool but you can waste a lot by melting it too much during application. The amount of grit seems ok. No complaints.

I've been messing about with trying to restore objects I locate with my metal detector. I have to make use of my Dremel rotary tool when doing this (I don't have an actual shop to work in, so my tools are limited). I've been polishing some tools, after the rust has been removed, using these three polishing compound bars. They are small (as the listing shows), but are prefect for use with a Dremel-type rotary tool. I didn't find anything unusual, or worth commenting about, in regard to these bars. They work as they should - and that's all you can ask from them.

With these three compounds and using cotton wheels or points dedicated to each, you can remove the scratches from most any substrate and probably make it shine better than the day it was manufactured. Just requires learning how much compounding to do with each color (grit) before advancing to the next color. I got this set to remove scratches from a Navajo silver overlay belt buckle I wore daily. My Hopi overlay buckle is in much better condition, but I will be able to polish it with this set once it needs attention. The mandrels, wheels and points are from other rotary tools I own and are not included with the compound bars. 4 oz. bars will polish lots of gold and silver jewelry but are insufficient for removing scratches from and polishing larger pieces like pots and pans, tea kettles, trophies or classic car parts.

Bought this for my husband to use with his Dremel drill. We only have used the green stick so far and it worked great. Of course slightly messy but good.
