I’ve used other versions of this in the past and have worried about styrofoam pieces ending up in the frosting due to loose manufacturing. This product is super durable and the foam is so tightly packed I wasn't worried about stray pieces affecting my cake! It layered well and was easy to frost over, it didn’t absorb any odors or residues out of the frosting either and it held up really well under a heavy topper. It definitely costs more than the other options but I think it functions a lot better so it’s worth the higher price point!

After reading some reviews I was worried that this would come with dents and grooves, but mine was actually very smooth. It has a very shallow, barely noticeable, seam on the side, but that wasn't a problem. I covered my cake dummy with buttercream, but I believe the seam would not have shown through with fondant either. This cake dummy is great if you like the look of tiered cakes, but don't have a party large enough to eat all that cake. I used this as the 8-inch base on top of which I put a real 6-inch cake. I did not transport the cake, so I didn't bother putting dowels in it, but I don't think I would have anyway with just these two tiers. It's reusable too, as long as you wash it and take good care of it.
