This tool is designed to measure the brake pad thickness from the top or outside of the pad backing plate to the rotor. The design assumes a backing plate thickness of 6mm, in my experience most are thinner than 6mm making this tool not very useful. I knew this ahead of time and planned to modify this tool when I ordered it. What I did was trim the plunger shorter using a digital caliper to trim the length of the rod to the top of the tools 'foot'. So now I hook the 'foot' of this tool UNDER the backing plate when measuring. Now the plate thickness does not matter and I get accurate pad measurements every time.

I find it to be a "delicate" type tool. Not sure how it functions. Never had one of these before.

Great product for checking the pad thickness and you don’t have to take the tire off just a few seconds and your done and know how much brake pads you have left
